If everyone around you is green, you should strive to be red........or at least a different shade of green

5. Actually more about caste, than 'race'

In Hindu culture being lighter translates to being higher on the caste food chain.

the caste system is inherently racist. Merriam-Webster define racism as "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race." They define race itself as "a class or kind of people unified by shared... characteristics" and "a category of humankind that shares distinctive physical traits."

You're saying lighter skin = higher caste = easier access to wealth. That's a classic case of racist rationalization.

Second that is how it was explained to me by more than one Hindu Indian. So take it up with them. Also I resent your implication that I am somehow 'rationalizing' anything, don't shoot the messenger

Third since they (Indian Hindus) all belong to the same 'race', it's ludicrous to attach the term 'racism' to the cultural attitudes towards skin tone.
