House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tells reporters why President Obama is coming to speak to the Democratic caucus tomorrow(Friday) in anticipation of the weekend's healthcare vote.

It would be a big embarrassment and a momentum killer if it failed in a vote.

8. Given what the single payer plan costs per person in Canada,

most of us would be saving money with a similar tax funded plan here - and no worries about coming up with thousands in cash to cover deductibles before insurance kicks in. We'd actually have access to care.

What Congress appears to be ready to pass us is mandated coverage with no guarantee of care - and they'll expect us to be grateful for it. :mad:

I'm curious as to why you say.."No guarantee of care"?

10. Because if you have deductibles and other out of pockets that are so high

you still can't afford to see a doctor you won't get care even though you're paying for "coverage".

It's sometime referred to as being underinsured. Michael Moore did bring this up in "Sicko" and it's becoming more common as employers move to high deductible (aka "consmer driven" plans). The House bill allows for high annual deductibles ($5K single, $10K family the first year) and premiums up to 11% of your income.
