1. Got too smart -- had to resign
That seems to be the common thread. If you can read Howard Zinn and understand Noam Chomsky, you're far too smart for the Pentagon/State Department/contractor complex in the first place. If you aren't and enter the complex, but somehow learn on your own through observation, then once again you are too smart and have to go.
