These are gubernatorial seats. The balance of power in Congress is unchanged.

If there has been any message, it's that the Democrats in Congress better do what they were elected to do--get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, reform health care and the economy and undo as many of the clusterfucks that Bush-Cheney created. They are not embracing a return to RW economics.

So far I've seen little discussion of the implications of the election of Garamendi a solid progressive out of a typically republican district CA-10.Granted this was a retention and not a turnover, but it did substitute a solid progressive who never backed off his principles for a democrat less stalwart in those principles.This is not to mention that he was the Lieutenant Governor in an administration not particularly popular at the moment.I tend to agree with bulloney that the main message might well be to pull harder to the left rather than rightward toward the center.But Cantor and the other wingnuts have got to try to spin this less than significant episode into a referendum on the people and party in power.
