3. How absolutely disgusting these neo-con extremists have become.
Maybe they are finally meeting their match with more and more Americans standing up for what's right in this country. Gawd I hope they lose big time 2010. I believe too that there are a lot more moderate-to-left people in this country than is advertised.

4. I believe it too. It just seems that those of us in that political
group tend to be too silent. We don't speak out often enough, except with our vote, and sometimes that just isn't good enough. Proof of that is right here on this board, where the far left, and the freepers make so much noise that you would think everyone has gone against Obama, yet when you look at a poll on the board, it is obvious that isn't true.

39. nazi and neo cons are completely different.
sorry, pet peeve alert but really, neo con is not a catch all for right wing extremists. Quick cheat sheet:

neocons are very pro Israel and used to be democrats, some were even socialists.

Skin heads? Not so much.

In terms of national defense, skin heads hate middle easterners but because they are not christian and not white. If they had to choose sides between Iran (for instance) and Israel I'm not sure which side they'd be on.

wonder if those still exist. Haven't been to those in a decade. Either either Nuked em or ended up getting nuked which once you patched Windows 95 wasn't an issue anymore.

The KKK still has a right to speak so I'm not particularly cool here, but it's fun seeing the tables turned. That simple shouting managed to get them out of there instead of the cops beating them up.

77. Remember that the First Amendment guarantees no Government interference
As much as their message disgusts me, I agree Nazi's and KKK do have a right to their beliefs and speech, but that does not mean that private citizens cannot turn up to shout them down. As long as the counter protest is peaceful then all is well. As you stated the crowd was enough to send the Skins packing. The police were actually protecting them and holding back the crowd. Funny how they were so demure in the face of a larger counter protest. They are usually so tough when it is 3 on 1 in a fight. :sarcasm:

43. Time for a lesson ....the term neo-cons is a term..created and chosen by the neocons themselves.....
Edited on Sun Nov-01-09 05:51 PM by winyanstaz
and what it means is neo = NEW and cons is short for CONSERVATIVES.
There are NO members of todays Neocons that were once Democrats. Rush and Carl Rove were NEVER left wing.
It is a typical right-wing maneuver to try to change the labels and re-write history.
Skin heads hate EVERYONE that isn't white and Christian...period.

44. Wolfowitz, Feith, Perle....all dems (Perle says he still is) out of Scoop Jackson's office
You can define neoconservative to mean Rove and Rush but they are not neocons, or certainly not founders of that "movement". The neocons in Bush's office were Cheney and Rumsfeld.

51. Do I smell a whiff of anti-semitism here?
Edited on Sun Nov-01-09 09:46 PM by clear eye
Seems like you have just redefined "neocon" to include only Jews, despite the coiners of the term meaning no such thing. While the major founders were Jewish, the circle rapidly expanded to include James Q. Wilson, Jeane Kirkpatrick, James Woolsey, and more recently, John Yoo, to name a few. The main difference between the old conservatives and the neo-conservatives is around the issue of foreign interventionism in general, not merely regarding Israel, and over how important shrinking the budget is vs. expansion of power. The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI), based in Washington D.C., has been a leading member of the neoconservative advocacy community for nearly three decades and is one of the more prominent U.S. policy institutions. Its roster icludes at least as many non-Jews as Jews. Rove is not an intellectual so has never defined any movement tenets, but by serving only those embracing neocon positions, has to be called a neocon if he is to be called a follower of any ideology.

And neocon is a shorthand way of saying neoconservative--nothing more or less.

Whatever quip may have been attached to neoconservatives in the beginning, the term has long since been enlarged to mean a nationalistic, expansionist form of conservatism.

54. I'm using the definition in the dictionary and the names used in Wiki.
Main Entry: neo·con·ser·va·tive
Pronunciation: \ˌnē-ō-kən-ˈsər-və-tiv\
Function: noun
Date: 1952

1 : a former liberal espousing political conservatism
2 : a conservative who advocates the assertive promotion of democracy and United States national interest in international affairs including through military means

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/neoconservative

Among those who worked for Jackson were future neoconservatives Paul Wolfowitz, Doug Feith and Richard Perle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoconservatism

You can use any definition you want but when you call skin heads/nazis neoconservatives on a public message board you have to expect people will tell you you are wrong. Oh, and when you call me anti-Semetic? You can expect me to call you an asshole.

My bitch with calling Rove a neocon is I don't think Rove wanted to promote democracy by military means, he wanted to promote himself, his party, and W by military means. Bush made the decision to go to Iraq because he believed Saddam had WMD and Bush was/is afraid of his own shadow. The "spread democracy" BS came up only after there were no WMD.

There's a ton of stuff out there to read on the subject. Which I'd suggest before you go around calling me an anti-Semite.

And while we're at it, who the hell do you think coined the term? Wiki says it was Michael Harrington. Was he Jewish? Does that make me anti-Semetic to quote Wiki? Does it make me an anti-Semite to say that Irving Kristol was a socialist? Or that many consider Orwell to have been (or would be) a neocon?

Now, maybe you've coined the word to mean something different but I prefer to use the definition accepted by people who are informed and don't go around insulting ppl on message boards without knowing what they are talking about.

61. I read the wiki stuff, but don't think they're a good source.
I Googled around a bit more and updated my last comment. I apologize for editing it after you responded. What I said corresponds to your second dictionary definition. In common parlance it's replaced the first for around 20 years.

I still think it's odd to link a despised political philosophy w/ only its Jewish espousers, and to describe its split over interventionism w/ oldline conservatism as being "pro-Israel". This may be the fault of the wikipedia article's author who seems to be stuck in 1978 or thereabouts. However, you didn't mention Harrington in your first post. Not Jewish enough?

63. give it a rest, dude
I was responding to winyanstaz who said no current neocons were dems. I remembered Perle said he's still a dem and that Wolfie worked for Scoop so I double checked with wiki and added Feith because I'd forgotten he'd worked for Scoop.

And that makes me worthy of your scorn?

And I didn't mention Harrington because, I was responding to the post that said no neocons were ever dems. And Harrington wasn't ever a neocon, he was always a socialist (the good kind, not the "the nazis were socilaist" BS kind). And I had no idea he was Jewish.

People who read the actual documents from the 1990s from PNAC and don't see a connection to the security of Israel has blinders on for whatever reason. And that doesn't mean I'm anti-Semetic, it means I can read.

75. neocons just like war, they do not care why they get to fight it, they just
want to fight, win medals, have dead bodies to salute, etc.. They were pro Israel because it put them in a position that they might have to go to war for. They are now anti Iran because it might mean a war. They like to think they can fight and win any war they please, with someone else's body of course. Conservatives used to think that war was only for necessary things like protecting our country, not spreading democracy.

65. Rove and Rush are shucksters. They have no political philosophy.
They could give a rats ass about whether the ppl of Iraq get to live in a democracy (unless the leader of that democracy is a puppet we can manipulate for oil, which was the plan all along), all they care about is making money and keeping republicans in office so they can make MORE money.

Cheney, Libby and Rumsfeld were the big name neocons in W's admin.

Rove and Rush are bat shit crazy, conservative pricks but I don't think they are neocons. I will admit that many in the Bush admin jumped on the neocon bandwagon after we failed to find WMD but that's not because they believed we should die to bring democracy to a country that will likely vote in some mullah, its because they were trying to cover their sorry asses about being so wrong about Iraq and WMD. Oh yeah, and Cheney was in it for the oil.

My question is why Cheney became a neocon. He certainly wasn't when he worked for Poppy.

71. but they all worked for Scoop Jackson. You think he would have hired republicans?
Scoop was wrong on the war, but he was a great civil rights advocate. I can't believe he would have hired and worked with Wolfie, Feith and Perle if they were like Palin anything but the war.

And Lieberman was fairly liberal (on social issues at least). Certainly not a shining light but pro choice, doesn't hate on gays too much, etc. He just went bat shit crazy at about the time of Iraq.

I have no trouble with Lieberman calling himself a Dem up to about 2003. After that, he lost it. And I have no evidence that Wolfie, Feith and Perle were not "real" dems in the "I support the war" era when they worked for Scoop.

I'm not even sure Lieberman calls himself a dem anymore. More "independent."

40. Sam Johnson, one of the great thinkers:
"I think Hitler was a great man," Johnson said. "I think he did what Germany needed to have done at that time. As far as the Holocaust, if you actually look up the stuff on the Holocaust, Adolf Hitler did not even know that there was anything going on with the Jews, as far as any type of murder or whatever you want to think happened."

Approximately 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust in Nazi Germany during the 1930s and early '40s. Nazis deemed Jews "inferior" and saw them as a threat to the German racial community.

But Johnson says that Hitler's plan was to move the Jews from Europe to the island of Madagascar. Hitler eventually abandoned that plan.

"Everybody's always focusing on the negative of what (Hitler) did and nobody ever looks at the positive," Johnson said, adding that Hitler helped Germany rise from major unemployment.

More of his intellectual brilliance at this link, if you have the stomach for it:

46. Jake: "Hey Offficer, what's the holdup?"
Cop: "Fuckin' Illinois Nazis won their court battle to protest"
(Cop walks away)

Jake: "I hate fucking Illinois Nazis!"
(Guns the Bluesmobile and runs straight for the Nazis, causing them to jump into a nearby body of water)

Anyone remember "Blues Brothers"? Great movie!! Jake and Elwood were truly on "a mission from God"!!

I guess, even someone dumb enough to believe he's a fascist can't, because he's black.

Did you know skinheads are really cowards?

When a group of them comes at you and your friends looking for trouble, show a few steel pipes with a menacing "Oooh, this is going to be fun" look on your face, and they run like hell.

78. Why aren't people ignoring these losers?
This isn't the threat right now. It seems to me to be energy wasted. Ignoring these idiots does more to hurt their cause. They thrive on the hate - that's exactly what they are all about. Just say'in.
