4. As a teacher...

...I cringe when a student of mine states an intention to join the military. I will never try to sway them one way or another, it's their decision and I respect their determination to serve our country in this way, but I also fear for them. One of my former students came back from Iraq and killed himself. One of my former honors students, a great kid with a bright future...and his spirit was broken and stolen from him. I support our troops to the fullest, they lay their lives and well-being on the line for us every day...but we have no business spending these lives so cheaply for things that we really should not be doing. You can't fight a land war in Asia, especially Afghanistan. You are not fighting a tangible enemy. It's not like the old days. The rules have changed, and our approach needs to finally change to acknowledge that. Or more of our children will die or have their lives forever scarred.

they've been coming in anonymously in the dark behind security perimeter in a hidden corner way too long, one of the worst of Bush policies. End the war now!
