2. My husband and I were talking about anti-war protests of the 1960s
and he was commenting on how different the police presence is today compared to back then.

The police presence at the G-20 looked like a military force deployed against the citizens.

4. G-20 "security" forces included 2,500 members of the National Guard?
No wonder it felt like a war zone.

5. A thousand police volunteers from around the country. WTF?
1000 cops going out of their way to bust some heads. If you were not a hateful person why would you do that?

7. You got it exactly
I'm not in law enforcement, but I've work closely with law enforcement officers for a long time. Long enough to know that the kinds of officers who volunteer for this sort of "out of town overtime" are basically looking for trouble.

I know a lot of people on DU have poor opinions about police in general. I don't. I happen to believe, through my own experience, that the majority of police officers are good and well intentioned people trying to serve their communities and earn a paycheck. But, there is also a significant number of assholes who join the force in order to be an asshole with a gun and a badge. Some cities are worse than others.

Pittsburgh police are generally about the least reactionary force I've ever encountered and it seems they have good leadership. This was a clusterfuck and I blame the feds and the mayor for it.

Thanks for posting. Glad I got to see this. More perspective on what happened is always a good thing.

I hope there is legal action being taken. This is simply absurd.
