This year will probably be an indication of what is in store from global warming.

Experts believe the floods in England, heatwave in Europe and storms and floods in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India may herald worse disruptions.

Phil Jones, whose organisation provides data to the UN International Meteorological Organisation says 2007 looks like being the second hottest year on record.

He says, since records began in the 1860's, only one other year has had as many climatic changes.

A huge fire in central Cyprus has destroyed several holiday homes and forced the evacuation of at least two towns.

The blaze is raging in the area of Saittas in the Troodos mountains, some 55km south-west of the capital Nicosia.

Victims of the Pakistan cyclone have been staging protests in the streets of Karachi.

Pakistani police have fired tear gas to break up demonstrations by some of the 1.1 million victims of a cyclone.

Nearly 500 people were killed by more than a week of severe weather that swept across much of South Asia as the monsoon season came early.

ATHENS - Two men were killed on Thursday in a forest fire in Greece, which is battling dozens of blazes on the sixth day of a heatwave.

The fire trapped the victims' car near the town of Agia in central Greece in the early hours. They got out and tried in vain to escape, officials said.

Dozens of firefighters and planes battled to contain the blaze as well as several smaller fires being fanned by strong winds in the nearby Pelion peninsula.

1. TPTB will not address this issue and,
unfortunately, until it bites us (the US) in our collective ass, we won't sit up and recognize what is happening to the rest of the world.

I know, I'm painting the US with a very broad paintbrush, but, damn, even in my city of around 300,000, when we hold meetings about climate change and global warming, we never get more than 25!

Thanks, louvian, for the video and up to date news.

And this year is already half way over and there is still no definitive action happening on a global scale. It is as if we are headed for that train wreck and instead of the brake we put our foot on the gas. I surely hope it is not too late. Thanks for this.
