Very glad to see Rick Sanchez asking this very important question! I hope the full version of this segment turns up...

ETA:

Here's the full segment:

Rick Sanchez plays portions of a sermon given by Pastor Steven Anderson from a Tempe, AZ, church, given the day before President Obama arrived for a town hall meeting. Anderson's sermon was titled "Why I Hate Barack Obama." He says the President "deserves to die" for supporting abortions, and should "melt like a snail."

According to "a CNN source with very close ties to the Secret Service," death threats against President Obama have risen. Sanchez calls it a "deeply disturbing trend that is taking place in our country."

Incidentally, it was also confirmed that the man who carried a gun to that same Obama event was in attendance at that sermon.

The section above continues at 5:10 - Sanchez cites the law pertaining to this at 5:50: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVwfdaYuy1k

Some vile and disgusting comments coming in on this version, maybe the Secret Service should keep on these YouTubers too...

Just found his blog, maybe they need to keep an eye on these "followers" as well: http://sanderson1611.blogspot.com/2009/08/brother-chris-carries-ar-to-obama-event.html

1. Did they "visit" him or put the fear of God into him?
"Visit" makes it sound like they had tea and bagels. I hope the agents made this radical Christian cleric piss in his pants.

3. I sure hope so. Pastor Steven Anderson is nothing short of a hateful
fanatic who preaches violence. He is a real danger.

btw Why he is allowed to have tax-free status as a religious organization given he is exercising political speech from his pulpit?

I dunno? Ask the guys at C Street House.

Because Religion ALWAYS gets a free pass.

I remember back in the 70's, I had a friend, Monty, who had a long ZZ Top beard. We were both costume makers working in theatre. He made himself a Greek Orthodox priest outfit and would wear it when he flew to Greece to visit his family. He'd sail through security and customs. Soon he put 2 and 2 together and started bringing back bunches of great Turkish hash back under his robes. Sailed right through! Ahhh... the good ol' days!

9. He shouldn't be. The IRS gives churches pretty wide latitude,
but taking any clear partisan position crosses the line. The only way he could possibly get away with this is because it's not an election year. They really watch for endorsements of candidates or parties. But this seems partisan enough to put his church's 501(c)3 status at risk.

12. Leave with them?
When there are good recipes for frying them up and making him eat them?

That's not torture, is it? A rare gourmet meal?

and the church for the next eight years.

5. What I would have given to hear what
what that little nut sack had to say to the authorities. I bet he majorly back pedeled. The little weasel, too chicken to chirp what dispicable shite he truley believes.

What part of "love you one another as I have loved you", confuses him? How in the world does one parse "Thou shalt not kill" other than thou shalt not kill? I bet his voice hit the gaydar a lot sooner than one miute, thirty-five seconds into the interview with the agents in suits and ties and good haircuts. The cops that get my attention are those with good haircuts. Serves the tweeky little git just right. Maybe now he's beginning to understand how self moderation of inflametory/hate speech is not infringement of civil rights, and making threats in civil language is not civil speech. It is threatening and it is wrong.

Don't get me wrong. I believe in my right to own weapons. In fact I have only had a single-shot shot gun in my home, while we lived in Nebraska. Mainly to shot and wharn off the pheasents the other guys in my party were seriously hunting. I was thier boss and they had to invite me at two or three times a season.

It never was even thought of to carry while greeting any politicians I voted for or against. What the heck is wrong with these people?

10. While I agree that this "Pastor" should be watched ...
The visit from the Secret Service merely plays into his paranoid/victim fantasies. It is so typical of these folks to cry the victim whenever their misconduct is called to task.

14. Thats not good enough
he should be made an example to others so as to prevent this skyrocketing hate
which is being projected by these fools, imagine a Pastor calling for the
assassination of a sitting President, a demonic church at best.
