7. Teacher at my kids school
She's been living in the US for fifteen years and taught pre-school. The school does not provide health care. Her husband worked as a security guard and to get health care they would need to pay 500 a month for a basic Kaiser plan which was too expensive. Anyway, she started having problems with her monthlies never ending. She couldn't get any care here in LA. The free clinic told her she needed to be bleeding profusely in order to merit her going to the emergency room. A bunch of us tried to find a doctor who would help her out but none would. (Days and hours on the phone showed us just how messed up it is to find care with no insurance.) She went home to Pakistan to get health care because she couldn't afford any in the US. How sad is that? Since then she's been unable to return to the US. The school had to hire a new teacher. She is sorely missed. I don't understand how they don't provide health care for the teachers when we pay so much in tuition?

8. In many districts substitute teachers are not covered even
if they are long-term subs as in filling in for a teacher on a year-long medical leave

3. Who are they? They are ...
your friends, your neighbors, your brothers, your sisters, your parents, your cousins, your teacher, your banker, your plumber, your bus driver, your hairstylist, and yourself.

They could be anyone you pass on the street or meet at work. They could be dying right now.

Don't you care? Shouldn't you?

4. I was the uninsured until I got BadgerCare Plus from the state of WI
for adults without children. It's nice to live in a mostly progressive state except for where it isn't progressive.

15. Do we have that now? I remember when I checked into it a few years back after becoming
uninsured, it was only for families with children. Glad to hear it's been changed!

5. If this poor man could get to Cuba he would be treated free via Cuba's Operation Miracle.
Cuba's Operation Miracle has treated over 1 million blind and sight impaired from around the world (except Americans who are travel banned by the US gov).

Damned commies.

6. Look at HHS website for demographics of uninsured
Edited on Wed Aug-19-09 07:04 PM by kmlisle
This site at HHS gives the demographics of the uninsured and you will find that the largest group, 60% of them, are aged 18 to 34. They are our grown kids or as my health care demo sign says "America's future is uninsured!"

The "I've got mine" crowd should think about that because these young people have parents and grand parents who well may have to choose between their retirement savings and the life of their child or grand child.

Health care not warfare not wealth care NOW!

11. I'm part of the "I got mine" crowd because I have Medicare, but I'm not saying
the hell with the rest of them. I want those kids to have Medicare that is better than mine, and have it now, however, the single payer universal health care option has been blasted to bits not only by the Republicans but they are having a lot of help from our side. Single payer was thrown under the bus from the first days of this debate. We need to rise up again and make them do it. We have until the end of September to really get their attention. Don't listen to anyone who says it's dead. All those who say it forgot to put a bullet in the body.

14. That was a blatant attempt at propaganda.
Tagging the BD Dems with "fiscally conservative". What a meme! It's about money. Just not in the way they want us to think.
