2. So it turns out that this guy is on the anti-Obama side
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 10:06 AM by Apollo11
This guy believes that taxation is theft and government programs are morally wrong even if they have majority support.

He seems to believe that Americans should arm themselves and get ready to resist the will of the majority.

and the worst part is that the law protects his "right" to openly carry an assault rifle in public.

America is a truly terrifying country.

On Edit - he appears to be linked with a group of Ron Paul fans that have a number 4409 (Any ideas? President 44? 2009?)

@wndycity - why not edit your subject line and remove "2nd attempt"? It's confusing.

5. Too bad the Constitution didn't protect tee shirts during the * years.
How can we rationalize the fact that this is OK when our government kept people from attending events with * on the basis of apparel and party affiliation for eight years. We are still under the control of some evil dudes if you ask me, and I am not talking about Obama. The more I think about it the more it pisses me off. When Pickles came to town we were sequestered on a corner far from the action and when her motorcade went by it was the SS that pointed assault rifles at us from the tailgates of SUV's. What would they have done if we had automatic guns I wonder. This makes no sense at all.

17. To be a little bit picky:
There is nothing inherent morally right about something just because it comes from a majority.

But that does change the fact that this guy is an idiot.

Correct me if I am wrong, but was the revolution not essentially over taxation without representation - not taxation itself?

4. Sounds like trason to me
"whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

United States Code at 18 U.S.C. § 2381

13. I would LOVE to see a prosecution based on YouTube evidence
But probably the guy would have to do more than just carry his gun in public - which is an implicit threat from where I'm sitting but apparently it's legal in Arizona.

16. It's his words that constitute treason
"We will forcefully resist people imposing their will on us through the strength of the majority with a vote."

That's a direct challenge to a dutifully elected government.

18. Not treason -- the only crime defined in the Constitution
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 10:48 AM by Davis_X_Machina
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.
Probably not sedition, or incitement to riot, either.

The Brandenburg tests are 'intent, imminence, and likelihood'
The constitutional guarantees of free speech and free press do not permit a State to forbid or proscribe advocacy of the use of force or of law violation except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action. Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444 (1969)

Symbolic speech -- that would include the gun, if its possession was otherwise legal under state and local statues -- is covered, too.

Free speech is a bitch.

8. I'd say that DHS report about the RW extremists was right on the money.
This guy and the other teabaggers, turfers (or whatever the hell they are) are going off the deep end. This isn't simply about health care - its a collective right wing hissy fit that could well become quite dangerous if they aren't watched closely.

12. I don't care what you guys think, I LOVE this guy.
Whether or not he's working according to a plan, or at the behest of shadowy organizations that do not ordinarily support our interests, this guy is doing our work for us.

As I have pointed out elsewhere, the Obama-hating storm troopers out there have one problem with the Second Amendment: it extends the right to bear arms to minorities, which secretly must deeply frighten them. Just seeing this guy walking around, looking smart and loaded for redneck, has probably already sent hundreds of potential Republican mobsters straight home to the safe couch and O'Vibely.

He singlehandedly splits the gun issue in a way that is sure to divide the RWAs, because if you take the racism out of the Second Amendment, it doesn't leave the knuckle-draggers with much to differentiate themselves from anyone else.

This is a development so fortuitous that it could be a plan. In fact, I jokingly proposed such a plan here at DU only days before this guy showed up.

14. I feel sorry for him
He has been brainwashed with right-wing nonsense and is bending over backwards to fit in with a bunch of Ron Paul types - most of whom are secretly white-supremacist sympathizers who 50 years ago would have been regulars at their local KKK meetings.

24. sofa king, while i don't love the guy and tend to think he is a nut
i absolutely agree with you about the attitude that right wingers, of the ilk to protest health care reform, have toward extending any "right" to all people. they truly believe that everyone shouldn't be treated equally under the law.
maybe most americans don't really believe in equality?
in my opinion, this anti-human notion is sponsored by the way that american capitalism has kept working people fighting each other over too few scraps.
it is a divide and conquer strategy that has been well employed in america since long before the industrial revolution.
for example, poor, southern whites could be kept content, docile, and in their place simply through their knowledge that their lot was better than the enslaved. after the civil war, rather than celebrating the elevation of their fellow citizens, these people began to hate the former slaves. hate them for their freedom!
the same mechanism is at work today in america.
the stress related to economic insecurity makes us less human. rather than nurturing each other we have to compete. everything someone else gets is something we can't have. if we get sick or lose a job we need a large nest egg to survive (so we can't afford to be generous).
we are fragmented and incomplete and delight in other's misfortune as if it somehow means our success.

Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 10:29 AM by taggline
Put down the remote, the iPod, the inebriates, the whatthefuckever you're distracted by, and get ready...I believe we're on the brink of nutjob/moran violence. Fuck that punk assed AR 15 guy...Big gun little pecker/brain. Most of the idiots that are attending these Town Hall scream fests, don't even have a clue as to WHY they're there in the first place...(x-cept maybe it might be 'cuz of those little stipend checks they're receiving from Big Pharma/Insurance pimps). We are a nation of dumbasses...plain and simple. Bought and sold, with a fist full of gold...

We lose an election and we post on websites, go to meetups, write letters to the editor, donate to candidates, organize, and register voters.

They lose an election, and they get out their guns.

So who is it again that doesn't believe in the American system?
