Sen. McCaskill had three Town Hall meetings August 10th.
I watched one full one on CNN live stream and she did an awesome job - the one she did in an auditorium with the red curtain behind her. I wish that everyone in America could watch that one!
The partial video clip above is of another one.
I don't know how the third one went... anyone know?
McCaskill's people skills are excellent and other folks in Congress could learn a lot from her ;)

P.S. Speaker Pelosi DID NOT call anyone 'un-American'

She was talking about the process of discussing the issues.

Also, Pelosi did not call anyone Nazis. She did say that people had brought signs with Nazi symbols to a Town Hall and that is TRUE.
Again --- Do not let the astroturfers, the republicans, and the misinformed get away with the falsehoods!

I think that Claire probably did not know what Pelosi's statement was.
1) She did not say anything directly about Pelosi - she did not really comment on Pelosi.
2) She did say she agreed to the questioner, but the woman had two statements in her comment and I think Claire was mainly agreeing with the second part.

13. Oh this is pretty neat too...

At the Town Hall meeting that CNN ran live stream ... McCaskill had everyone put their written question in a bucket/jar and then at the beginning of the talk she had the people that were against the health care bill raise their hands... then she picked someone that was against the bill to pick the questions from the bucket/jar -- to show that the process was fair.

Then later during the questions and answers when she was interrupted by people that were just hollering out questions she reminded them that it wasn't very nice to try to go before the people that had submitted written questions and were waiting for answers to their questions ---- it was a very good way to help get the crowd to stay calm and be on her side.

It was a very very good town hall and I really wish that the video was on YouTube but I haven't found any clip at all of it.
Maybe there is part of it on CNN video but I haven't looked there.

14. K&R. Great Video. Good manners present well from both sides of the debate.

I wouldn't have a problem with the questions that are being asked if there was civility in it. For people that believe in these false ideas that have been spread about healthcare reform these questions need to be asked. But it helps nobody when you stand around screaming nonsense and shouting down everybody else. There is no way to have helpful discourse with that approach.

I think she blew it.
McCaskill could have easily followed her rapid agreement with a sort civics lecture and had all the hands in the room go up when she asked; who agrees that - some formulation of Pelosi's quote 'Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.'?.
Then she could have delivered a real teachable moment by saying that,well they all actually agree with Pelosi, read the damn quote, and then finally told them that any one who told them something different (Repukes, wingnut radio/tv) are lying to them- and that too is un-American as well.
