Well worth watching throughout, Dennis Kucinich & Bernie Sanders also get their say in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UfpU0zBKeU">Part 2.

(For the squeamish, the graphic content is from 5 minutes 30 seconds until 5 minutes 50 seconds when people being treated by the http://www.ramusa.org/">Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps - USA are having their totally rotten teeth dealt with)

---- --- ----

It is the biggest challenge Barack Obama, the US president, has to face in his first year in office: fixing a healthcare system in crisis.

Plagued by both spiraling costs and tens of millions uninsured, lawmakers have worked at a feverish pitch debating how to re-tool what accounts for nearly one fifth of the American economy.

Meanwhile, this broken system is highly profitable for many.

In the back rooms a battle is raging as the powerful healthcare industry pushes for change that will not change their bottom line.

On this week's episode of Fault Lines, we look at the US healthcare system, expose its cracks, and uncover the forces that are spending millions of dollars every day to influence the debate over the US healthcare reform.

3. I don't believe there are any others on a regular basis
FSTV staples are Democracy Now, Grit TV with Laura Flanders and an ad hoc lecture series called Keynote. I think they have some individual programs.
Fault Lines has been really interesting.

Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 08:29 AM by Turborama
They have a good archive available on their website: http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes

Also, the link in my sig line takes you to Livestation which is free live streaming of what's being broadcast on their TV channel. It's worth downloading the player for better quality sound and picture. Here's their schedule: http://english.aljazeera.net/Services/Schedule/ProgramSchedule.aspx

7. 'Only 9% of the Amercan people have any faith in
the healthcare providers' according to a recent poll. With numbers like that, why is there a problem eliminating HMOs who, according to Kucinich in this video, are costing one third of all the money spent on this 'broken system'?

I love the guy who was representing an Insurance Co. who could not answer the questions about why the whistle-blower turned against what they are doing to the American people.

'One person dies every 24 minutes in the US from lack of healthcare.' That comes out to about 26,000 people a year and it's probably more.

We went to war because of the deaths of under 3,000 people, but those same cheer-leaders for war refuse to do anything to stop this death toll.

It IS a National Security issue unless my understanding of Nat. Sec. has been wrong, which is to protect the safety and lives of the American people.

That is a great show, excellent reporting and questioning by the reporter. If only the corporate media would educate the people like this we would have Single Payer already.

8. This was very good!
I'm surprised it was even allowed to be produced.
