Is America's biggest enemy/obstacle authoritarianism, or stupidity?

I say stupidity.

And I feel kind of lonely taking that stance, but unless others do, I won't be very lonely for long. But, by then it may be too late.

A democracy made up of smart people is a great thing. A democracy made up of misinformed idiots is a horrible thing-it's an IDIOCRACY.

It's about time to get below the surface of saying "both dems and reps suck" "i dont trust the government" "all politicians are liars"

Get beyond that and ask "DO the democrats suck AS BAD as the republicans? Do they REALLY?" "WHY don't you trust the government?" "WHICH POLITICIANS ARE LIARS, and which politicians LIE about WHAT?"

We've had the superficial cynicism towards authority for a long, long time. It's about time we looked deeper. Otherwise-we'll get more of the same-and we can't afford more of the same.

1. I very much like how he made the point that went something like "If you have something to say about
'government' being bad" you need to say PRECISELY, that's IN DETAIL, what government is doing wrong. Just saying "Cash for Clunkers BAD" or "Medicare BAD" doesn't cut it; you need to say who, what, when, and how it's bad.

BTW: It's not the rich staying rich and not "giving anything to the poor". I don't care if they stay rich as long as

They pay the country back for what it costs, financially, environmentally, socially, and in all otherwise, to produce that wealth for the rich. In short, they need to pay the REAL price for the "profits" they are taking.

3. Sinclair Lewis's "It Can't Happen Here" is a good description of how stupidity enabled
the rise to power of a fascist government.

5. Excessively salty language aside...worthy of a view!
I agree 100% with the video maker. Stupidity, rampant, unchecked, even reveled in stupidity is dangerous to the future of this country.

6. No, the 90's weren't actually real either
By then real wealth was already being replaced by finance bullshit. And it wont be real again until people who create nothing but bullshit cease to be the ones getting the million-dollar bonuses. And that wont happen until we stop returning their handmaidens to Congress. He is soooo right that stupidity is our enemy. We must stop promoting thieves to statesmen when they've stolen sufficient funds.

7. Stupidity is universal
Anybody remember James Welles, the author of the Story of Stupidity, who then stupidly got caught soliciting a minor over the internet?

8. Only partly true.
Please go watch "The Secret Government; The Constitution in Crisis" by a much younger Bill Moyers. http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=3505348655137118430&ei=3J49StneI464rgKE2pGvCg&q=The+Secret+Government&hl=en

Then I suggest you ponder WHY there's so much stupidity around. A grounding in the early roots of psychology is a good start.
