1. Shuster didn't like Pierce's points about the media
particularly what he said about Tweety and MSNBC.

2. No he didn't. And he was most obnoxious about constantly interrupting him
while he was speaking.

When's Olberman coming back? Shuster's working my last good nerve.

4. This guy tells the damn truth
Anyone that reads bartcop knows that The New York Whore Times, Chris the Whore, and the rest of the "mainstream media" are the problem. This guy is who needs a show on MSNBC.

5. It is the damn media that keeps giving them a podium... and MSNBC is just as guilty =/

6. Notice that Pierce chastises Countdown for giving Liz Cheney a platform
to which Shuster objects: "she refuses to come on this show".

So, countdown doesn't give Liz Cheney a platform, but they've offered her one. That doesn't make you not a whore, Shuster - it just makes you an unsuccessful whore.

they have given a platform for the wingnuttery.

It's not just about having them "on" the show, live and in person. When Shuster or Matthews or even Olbermann or Maddow shows a clip, in which the wingnut speaks UNINTERRUPTED, then the message gets out.

Shuster should have shut up. He was as big a bully as O'Really. Rude and insufferable. he didn't like it that Pierce was pointing out that MSNBC gives the nuts air time. A reasoned conversation about the issue would have done a helluva lot more good than yet another stupid shouting match between two members of the choir.

20. "she refuses to come on this show".
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 08:13 PM by AlbertCat
So they do YET another whole segment on her foolishness...asking "Why does this nuttiness keep going?"

David, Honey Bun, because YOU KEEP TALKING ABOUT IT. He just told you that and you freaked out and tried to not get him to go there. But it's the answer to your question.

7. See, this is why I can't watch Hardball or countdown anymore
They refuse to believe they have been, and still are, a big part of the problem by giving voice to the birthers, the Cheney's and the Palin's over and over and over. It's all about ratings. Pierce nailed it and as long as the news media keeps allowing these people on the air, nothing is going to get done in this country.

8. What crawled up Shuster's butt?..............
Oh yeah, its called being taken to school for giving this stupid "birther" story as much press as MSNBC does. Charlie was right on, and it seemed that Shuster couldn't grasp the fact that an odious public figure, such as Lynn Cheney, would let a smelly story like this one work for her benefit by not denying outright. David didn't like Charlie's smackdown of the media and decided acting like an ass was the way to go.

9. If shuster gets a show,
I won't watch him. His voice drives me nuts, for starters, and his smugness repels me.

I, too, am waiting for Keith to come back. I hope it's soon.

10. The advantage of these ridiculous allegations is obvious
They suck all the oxygen out of legitimate discussions. Schuster is contributing to this phenomenon, and now I am too.

13. Shuster wanted to stick to the script
This is how the media works.

They have a script. If someone tries to stray from the script they get upset. They are not equipped to deal with it.

Criticism is fine, as long as it is within the context of the particular script of the moment. If that criticism bleeds into something else they don't like it.

MSNBC is particularly sensitive to a charge that they are helping the right because if anything, they are supposed to be "left" friendly. But the point Pierce made was a good one: just giving someone like Liz Cheney airtime helps her.

The media time can be better spent with someone like Howard Dean on health care, or Matt Taibbi and the Goldman Sachs empire--things that aren't coverend in detail nearly enough.

Instead--we see Liz Cheney and ridiculous birther stuff that doesn't mean squat. Do you think that birther who stood up at Castle's meeting isn't a hero in the rightwing universe? Do you think she accomplished what she set out to do? Laugh at her and ridicule her if you want to--she's a nut, in a sense--but she knew how to play the media.

18. It's a Script , is RIGHT !
This CIRCUS the main stream media is creating and fueling everyday , is really harming the American people , by not informing them on IMPORTANT issues .

Of course Shuster interrupted and got indignant , when his guest rightly pointed out , it's the media that puts Liz Cheney on , to create this fabricated political soap opera and not cover REAL news , like why the Federal Reserve should be audited , no Discussions about that at ALL .

And why is it so damn important that Liz Cheney is denouncing these Birther kooks , is middle America sitting on the edge of their seats , are they staying up late at night , worried about her reactions . This madness needs to stop , they need to END these damn " discussions " and its no different than that idiotic crossfire show on CNN , and DO THE NEWS , A - Z . Shuster is just a little gatekeeper , protecting the soap opera infotainment business , he's in the middle of .

14. It seems like
Shuster wants Lizzie to be taken down and forced to admit she pimps for the wingnuts of her party. Not gonna happen..she'll dodge every time. Charlie is right. By continually giving her a platform they allow her to spread the propaganda and give her credence.
Larry King included.

15. i think we need as many voices on tv as we can get to call out
all the crazies. good for david and anyone else who tries to get republicans to denounce this crap. there's a lot of it going around the 'internets' and tv with no opposing voice. i'm glad david and tweety are keeping these idiots front and center . . . it just shows how dumb they are. the woman in that vid in md even looked like the loon at mccain's meeting who got satirized on snl. which negs the question, do you have to wear red to be loony?

19. What's the political advantage, David Shuster?
It's called solidifying the base. It's what every dictator does before seizing power. That "birther" woman would have made a great guard at a Nazi concentration camp. Or a Soviet gulag. Or at Gitmo.

What's the political advantage? Get the "moderates" and "independents" so fearful of the rabid mob, they'll compromise. Witness Florida 2000. Witness the Swift Boats.

w/o interruptions from the host. If I wanted to see a talk segment like that, I would watch fox news.
