1. Call me biased.....
I just don't see how anyone can be against this. I don't care to throw stones...this time, but this is for the good of the country, the good of the lower and middle class, good for the business owners and our employment futures to have health care provided OUTSIDE the workplace.

We are competing against nations that DON'T have to include the expense of medical coverage in their industrial expense. WE DO! One reason why unions struggle so hard to get decent wages AND decent medical coverage for their members.

How damn dense can we be? This is not about President Obama. It's about the future of this country.

Get our heads out of our asses for once. 50 million without any coverage? They aren't all 18 years olds who chose not to be covered, as these repug morons would have us believe.

God, we are a nation of morons!

5. Just the non-emphathetic rightwingers
who do NOT follow what they profess to believe - i.e. throw out the moneychangers and help the needy.
They follow the reverse - throw out the needy and help the moneychangers.

6. Businesses are tricky
On the one hand, your assessment is correct. Businesses have to funnel enormous amounts of their capital toward insurance premiums. This has caused a majority of businesses to be in favor of serious insurance reform, particularly in creating an expanded pool of options that they can choose from (many insurance markets in the U.S. are highly uncompetitive, with only a handful of companies dominating them). There's pretty widespread support among business leaders for the National Exchange proposal.

However, having health insurance tied to employment gives business owners and managers tremendous leverage in labor negotiations. Workers are far less willing to go on strike if they know that they and their families might lose their insurance. This is why you find many large businesses not in favor of single-payer or public option proposals. It's the kind of leverage over unions that they want to keep. So even though you have many small businesses in favor of such proposals, organizations that claim to represent them but actually serve the interests of very large corporations (such as the Business Roundtable and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce) are against them.

7. Consider that health care is 16 percent of GNP
Edited on Mon Jul-20-09 03:02 PM by Turbineguy
The economy is in the dumps. You gonna fuck with 16 percent? I'd go nice and slow. The important thing is to change direction. The rest will evolve.

Jesus liked profits after all.
