President Obama addresses the NAACP on various discrimination issues facing America, addressing race/color, gender, religion and even so far as to say it affects ''Our Gay Brothers & Sisters... Still Taunted, Still Attacked and Still Denied Their Rights'' - 07/16/09

3. I think he's got the right attitude on these issues, but where's the
ACTION?????????????

I want to see something happen on DADT and DOMA, before his first year is out.

7. Action is irrelevant. It's symbolism that matters!
Pres. Obama can say that today and go back to his usual policies tomorrow. And yet we will feel better about him!

It's perception that matters. Action is for malcontents!

What a country!

4. He also referred to black women who are paid less than their white, male counterparts
Latinos who are made to feel "unwelcome in their own country" and Muslims who are "viewed with suspicion" before concluding that "Prejudice has no place in the United States of America."

Thank you, Mr. President.

5. What's with "and even so far as" in the blurb?
Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 09:24 PM by burning rain
Seems like a not-so-nice implication in regard of gay rights.

8. he went so far as to use the term 'our brothers and sisters' -very strong support

...as opposed to merely mentioning it only in a passing reference - plus he was detailed about how it affected people... I thought it was a good sign

6. I'll take his speeches over Sotomayor's any day.
I really love how he lifted everyone up without putting anyone down. Yes discrimination still exists and he didn't lay that at anyones doorstep. Instead he made it everyones responsibility to eliminate it. He truly understands equality. It's not an Us vs. Them thing. Equality is a We thing and I'll bring another great charter into the discussion. It's a We The People thing. That's what Obama seems to be making it. A We The People thing we all can understand and we all can identify with. God bless him for that.

10. He does give one hell of a speech -- but as Eliza Doolittle says . .
Sing me no song, read me no rhyme
Don't waste my time, show me
Don't talk of June, don't talk of fall
Don't talk at all, show me
Never do I ever want to hear another word
There isn't one I haven't heard
Here we are together in what ought to be a dream
Say one more word and I'll scream
Don't wait until wrinkles and lines
Pop out all over my brow
Show me now
