He is delightful in this song. "My get up and go just got up and went."

Glad to see he did get to sing on the show. I know the so-called liberal media banned some of his appearances there.

"Pete sings his tribute to geriatrics on the Smothers Brothers show. Nice to know that 40 years later, Pete still has a little more get up and go in him."

1. I used to love that show.
It was canceled due to it's political content.

4. I remember our anger when it was canceled.
It was a wonderful show. CBS couldn't take the heat.

2. If memory serves, CBS wouldn't let him do Waist-Deep in the Big Muddy....
( "and the big fool says to push on") because it sounded like he was referencing LBJ and VN.

The more things change. Imagine, corporate media trying to limit political expression.

3. The degree of censorship from that era was amazing
It's ironic that CBS, which arguably set the standard for TV journalism, was also a leader in censorship.

In 1968, the network also censored "Living in Harmony," an episode from the amazing British TV series, The Prisoner, probably because the principal character refuses to carry a gun, an act of defiance that seemed to undermine efforts to "sell" the Vietnam War to the American public. The network suggested unconvincingly that it spiked the episode because it featured hallucinogenic drugs, an absurd claim given that mind-altering drugs were a major component of numerous episodes in the series.
