Meghan McCain's comment regarding Reagan's bashing of Carter: "I wasn't born yet, so I don't know."
Begala: "I wasn't born during the French Revolution, but I know about it."
Meghan McCain: "You clearing know everything so - and I am just the BLONDE sitting here."

1. Every bit as smart as her dad.
Put her in the Navy. Let's see if she can destroy even more planes than her dad.

Most are bleached.

I know it's funny to think about McCain cringing even more than the rest of us, but still....

9. I don't agree
The reason she got shit for agreeing to be on the show is because her story doesn't stand up to scrutiny. It only works in a protected environment where claims and assumptions are not challenged -- i.e. Faux news.

I don't think it is useful to be mean to her on a personal level, but her arguments are fair game.

11. But aside from being someone's daughter, she's simply not newsworthy.
How does she add to anything? She's a just a dimwitted spoiled brat attention whore. If that's the threshold, why not have Paris Hilton on? At least she might be amusing.

12. Because the the powerful GOP people won't come on to defend their positions
They hide out over at Fauz where they know they won't be challenged. Most of them won't go on any show where they could be asked to explain their positions in a logical way.

Of course it would be better to have more newsworthy Republicans on the show, but failing that, I think she's an OK choice. It sort of says "Here is the only Republican with the guts to engage in a real discussion." If the other Republicans think she represents them poorly, maybe they will re-figure the calculus of hiding out over at safe and protected Faux.

14. Right. She does not think before she speaks. Maybe she doesn't think much at all.
She just talks as if she believes she is thinking. Anyway, she talks in cliches she has heard somewhere. She needs to read history, to learn something before she pontificates on politics.

19. But how is that different from any other GOP talking head?
Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 08:44 AM by MindMatter
If any of them learned history and invested the time to really understand how the world works, they would not have the same worldview. The GOP positions are only safe with people who prefer to live life through a world of cliches and slogans.

The differences in her case is that she has kind of a valley girl inflection to her voice and she does admit she isn't very well informed on things. She seemed genuinely surprise to learn that Roger Ailes hand-picks the people it is safe to air on Faux.

Yeah, she's young and naive, but we can work with her. She one of the few Republicans that still has some part of an open mind. Remember, Arianna used to be a Republican. We can accomplish great things by working with the ones who have open minds.

25. "Yeah, she's young and naive, but we can work with her."
Yeah, provided we "look forward" and completely ignore all of the shit the GOP pulled under the Bush regime. This is spite of the fact that there are a lot of Republicultists out there who still blame everything that happened under his watch on Clinton.

I'll pass, thanks.

"I wasn't born then, so I don't know."

... Begala runs that straight back down her throat ....

"I'm getting so much shit just for being here."

15. MM Did Herself A Disservice
First, I think that "I wasn't born yet..." sounded snarky, like she was calling them all old. Kudos to Begala for coming back with a smart answer. Then the pathetic, "I'm just the blonde..." what nonesense. Katty Kay (the other female guest) is blonde too. I mean, you do something goofy with your friends and want to go, "Yeah, I'm blonde" well, fine. But when you go on a semi-serious discussion panel don't make lame excuses (age, gender, etc) for being unprepared. Or, if you do use it you have to sound like you're making a joke about your own folly.

You want to fire back about at Begala's comment? Don't make it personal. Reagan was elected almost 30 years ago. Most of the young voters weren't alive then or were too young to pay attention to politics. Make that the point not an excuse. As for the French Revolution, well Marie Antoinette didn't blame her predecessor!

Nah, Meghan McCain came across unprepared. It reminds me of when I saw Janeane Garofalo vs. Tucker Carlson on Crossfire

20. I like that she has guts to get out and talk about this but she has it wrong,
Obama is busy trying to fix the mess left over and the GOP's immediately started blaming all the current problems on Obama. Obama has actually not done enough to go after the previous administration. Many of Bush's problems need to go on record so they never happen again. The biggest are the voter irregularities (stolen elections) and torture but there were a lot more. I hope the lawyers are working on these. But keep talking Meghan and look more into the problems with most of the GOP's...maybe start the new party for young republicans and let the old ship sink with Rush, O'Reilly and that Beck guy on board.

Personally, I think she is the most well behaved child apologist they gotz. Not like that horrid Cheney blonde. She is honest, and if you try to demonize her, you are throwing support to their side. She's OK.

24. I don't dislike her, but she really does need to be better prepared next time
although she did say it was her first time on a show like this and she was nervous. I guess she felt like she needed to say something. The one that always gets me is Joel Stein - he is obviously so smart, but his wit always seems to just fall short of the mark.

She only sounds as asinine as Obama did when he said regarding Bill Ayres' criminal past: "I was seven."

28. What an idiotic comment for Meghan McCain to make...
... the one about something happening before she was born. That's very juvenile, and she completely set herself up for the smack-down rebuttal by Begala.
