When the Great Global Warming Swindle was first broadcast - climate deniers thought that at last they had the definitive polemic to beat back the forces of science and reason.....

2. K&R !
Thank you for this series. It keeps me up to date on the ridiculous assertions of the global warming deniers.

Amazing that the "NOW" marks on those graphs are the "glory" days of the Reagan era when people wanted to pretend that it was "Morning in America" and ignore that downer Jimmy Carter wearing sweaters in the White House to promote that bothersome conservation.

Solar was called "too expensive" while we continued to subsidize big oil. And spent trillions on big war to "secure" our supplies.

Back in the late 70's when concerns were beginning to be raised more broadly about global warming, people were given gentler scenarios about potential problems with the rising temperatures, to encourage the country to change and not depress everyone with the worst case scenarios. And instead, too many US policy makers and opinion shapers took the "it might not be so bad if we start cutting our carbon emissions now" sentence and dropped the part after the word "if"-- much like the denier movie analyzed this week stopped their charts at 1980 to make their points.

And here we are, past the gentler scenarios. Now requiring urgent action and getting moderate proposals instead. Scenarios that would have been appropriate 30 years ago-- slow reductions in carbon emissions and more green energy. Yes, certainly, some change is better than continuing total denial but we've passed the point of needing gentle changes phased in over 20 years.

I had always hoped we could apply at least half of the trillions we spend on making war into subsidizing alternative energy and mass transit. This is a large country so it will be expensive to build networks of high speed and light rail. I've always wished mass transit and sustainable development of alternative energy had been considered as part of our national security budget. Those billions in spending sailed through congress.
