WLUK - 11 June 2009: President Barack Obama hands out a hand written excuse to a school girl for her teacher during a town hall meeting at the Southwest High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on June 11, 2009. The girl's father said she was missing class at school today and Obama obliged by writing a note of absence.

One 10-year-old Wisconsin girl has a rock-solid excuse for missing the last day of school: a personal note to her teacher from President Barack Obama. John Corpus of Green Bay stood to ask Obama a question about health care during his town hall-style meeting at Southwest High School. He told Obama his daughter Kennedy missed school to attend the event and he hoped she didn't get in trouble.

"Do you need me to write a note?" Obama said. The crowd laughed, but the president was serious. On a piece of paper, he wrote: "To Kennedy's teacher: Please excuse Kennedy's absence. She's with me. Barack Obama." He stepped off the stage to hand-deliver the note -- to the girl's great surprise.

"I thought he was joking until he started walking down," Kennedy said after the event, showing off the note in front of a bank of television cameras. "It was like the best thing ever." The fourth-grader at Aldo Leopold elementary in Green Bay already knew exactly what she was going to do with the note: get it framed along with her ticket to Thursday's event. She said she'd make a copy to give to her teacher. Kennedy said Thursday was the first time she's seen Obama. "He's really nice," she said.

11. He wouldn't have been taking questions from real people to begin with...
...much less think of something so clever and generous.

I love that man!

18. Of course Bush could write notes -- remember this one?

President Bush writes a note to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a UN General Assembly meeting, September 14, 2005: "I think I MAY NEED A BATHroom break. Is this possible?"

You think Georgie or Grampy McSame could have done that?
Never mind, they wouldn't have even thought of writing a note!

32. They're so out of touch with the real world
they probably don't know that you have to write a note for your kids when they miss school. Daddy Barack must have written a few. Dana ; )

19. LOL! What a smart man, in so many ways.
It IS good political theater, and at the same time I really think it's a sincere reach-out to a kid who's life has just been changed. Obama does know he's great, but he uses his greatness with generosity and compassion, and assumes that those around him are great as well. I swear, he's going to out-decent the paranoid and the afraid and the disenfranchised and the angry. If they'll let him.

21. bet that would get more than Rush's apology letter ...
but I bet that the girl will NEVER part with it ...

I still have (somewhere) the letter from Ohio Representative Sherrod Brown complimenting me on my letter to the editor ... now Senator Sherrod Brown ...

(On a side note, I have in our family bible a birthday note to my grandfather from the Pennsylvania politician who called a press conference to blow his brains out ... R. Budd Dwyer ... )

28. Lol what a cool gesture....
McCain would never have done that if he were president, in fact he wouldn't have even been at a town hall meeting like that. Instead he'd probably be out golfing with his corporate buddies or at some luncheon for VIP's. Same with Bush except he would have been clearing brush at his ranch for a photo-op.

Anyways, good to see Obama doing things like that.

33. That kid is going to frame that note and hang it in her room...
...and then in her office and finally in her retirement home. In 100 years her descendants will bring it to Antique Hoverpath Show.

Reminds me of when I was in college trying to explain to a local election candidate that the professor will not mind if I miss my State and Local Government class to do poll work on election day.

"kill Obama."

Is that allowed on youtube or is it free speech?
