05-01-09 Fox News loves to feature these pathetic tools, Rivkin especially, to justify torture. Rivkin suggests waterboarding is about run of the mill action in your local police station. Then of course Michael Schuer is brought into look like a credible CIA analyst...blah blah blah.

1. A presumption and then a clear disregard of facts
the "BUT he greatly limited his options" bit at the beginning assumes that torture either has or could work. Everyone outside of the people covering their bosses tracks says exactly the opposite. The Army field manual is not LESS than normal police interrogation, their bringing it up would normally have lead to a full discussion of normal interrogation techniques and their effectiveness (very effective).

The part about a "ticking bomb" scenario ("24" fantasy) was actually addressed by none other than McCain when HE said that it would probably be understood by any court that if such a scenario occurred and an agent did torture and it did work then a court would probably let it pass. The President could also pardon anyone who did such a thing which is never mentioned.

Pure BS. LOVED the mushroom cloud though :eyes:

state to replace our constitutional democracy for a really long time.

From his Wikipedia bio, I would say that he is a bit of an egomaniac to say the least:

Not much is known about his personal history, though Scheuer was an analyst at the CIA and not a covert field operations officer. Scheuer graduated from Canisius College in 1974, and went on to earn an M.A. from Niagara University in 1976 and another M.A. from Carleton University in 1981.<2> He also received a Ph.D. in British Empire-U.S.-Canada-U.K. relations from the University of Manitoba in 1986.<3>
. . . .

Scheuer is now known to be the anonymous author of both Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror and the earlier anonymous work, Through Our Enemies' Eyes: Osama bin Laden, Radical Islam, and the Future of America.<4>

Osama bin Laden stated in his September 7, 2007 message:

"If you want to understand what's going on and if you would like to get to know some of the reasons for your losing the war against us, then read the book of Michael Scheuer." <4><5>

. . . .

Scheuer resigned in 2004. He is currently a news analyst for CBS News and a terrorism analyst for The Jamestown Foundation's online publication Global Terrorism Analysis.<5> He also makes radio and television appearances and teaches a graduate-level course on Al-Qaeda at Georgetown University. He also participates in conferences on terrorism and national security issues, such as the New America Foundation's December 2004 conference, "Al Qaeda 2.0: Transnational Terrorism After 9/11." <6>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Scheuer

He attend school that are OK but not particularly impressive. His resume strikes me as that of a hard-working, frustrated but somewhat mediocre guy, the kind of guy who thinks he should be viewed as more brilliant than he is.

I find it remarkable that Bin Laden supposedly pushed Scheuer's book in one of his videos. Makes me wonder more than ever who really wrote, filmed and prepared the supposed Bin Laden videos.

The whole thing doesn't make sense to me. Michael Scheuer strikes me as a living, breathing invitation to a conspiracy theory. And the funny thing is that he himself is so creative in imagining potential conspiracies and doomsday theories.

I think we are seeing the "baddest" apple in the bin. And, on top of it all, he looks so professorial and credible. Perfect match for Fox News.

5. Talk about begging the question
The entire report was underscored by a false proposition: torture is an effective and reliable method of getting accurate information.

Not once in that report was that assumption even remotely challenged.

No one who supports these interrogation methods is a credible interrogator. No one who refuses to call waterboarding torture is a credible reporter.

7. David Rivkin(Fmr Justice), and Michael Scheuer (Fmr CIA). Check.
Always room for a couple of jokers in the war crimes
deck of cards.

They argue from a false premise: that disregard of law
is a Presidential (or CIA) prerogative.
Where have we heard all that before?

But it isn't Obama's choice, its torture and illegal, and
Obama doesn't get to choose. They aren't HIS laws, after
all, they are OUR laws, and he is sworn to obey them.

But I'm beginning to wonder if Obama hadn't better start
bleeping SAYING that out loud before the whole thing gets
turned around and shoved up his own nose. Just sayin.

Tell me somebody, Please

Why in the hell would you buy a used car from the same asshole who sold you that last
famous piece of shit now sitting on blocks in your driveway because the tranny is
gone and you mechanic tells ya that even if you do put a new tranny in it the thing
wont last because the engine needs a rebuild. This and your payments on it still cost
you $300.00 a month ?

You would actually go back and get this guy's advice/opinion on a replacement car ?

Are there really that many ignorant hillbillies left alive in this country ???

9. Countries with a "moral obligation" do NOT have the "luxury" of torture -WE DO NOT TORTURE.(period)
Question: How easy is it to justifiably vilify a country that tortures people?
Answer: EASY.

Police work, recon, investigation, infiltration (means, I might add, that actually lead to most of the legitimate intelligence we acquired) are what separates us from medieval times. We are better than torture. Even if torture were effective (which in most cases was not) utilizing it means we are no better than the people we are fighting against.
