This is absolutely outrageous! I cannot even imagine how scared that young man must be as he sits in a jail cell charged with such a crime and without even the ability to speak to his family.

From the boy's mother in the video: "Never in my worst nightmare did I ever think that it would be own government that I would have to protect my children from."

WTF???

I can't say more because if I do, I'm liable to end up in that boat.

2. I heard a live interview with this lady and apparently someone
hacked the boy's IP address and Skype account and used it to make prank calls, including ones where bomb threats were made. She was told by authorities that IP hacking was not possible, which is utter bullshit.

3. Yeah, its called a trojan backdoor.
You can do any number of things to get somebody's IP. One is to have a backdoor on their computer, and you just proxy through it to make the calls. You can access their computer over the Internet to use as a proxy, or put a device in it (or on their network) and go through that, so nobody watching sees the incoming traffic.

4. Our tax dollars hard at work..........
This is exactly why you can't trust conservatives and others that promote Big Brother legislation when they say there are plenty of safeguards to ensure the innocent will not be harmed. We need Congress to immediately review the Unpatriotic Act and pull back some of the unbridled power we have given to the government.

5. I'd love to see this get a lot of press. It's what the Patriot Act is all about.
Curtailing rights, instilling fear, demanding obedience.

6. And just how many Democrats in Congress voted for it yet have done nothing to repeal it?

9. You know what's also scary? Feds could have yanked him off the street
and his parents would have been left with not knowing what happened to their son. I realize in this case the Feds had a search warrant, so even if they did take this boy while on his way home from, say, school, the parents would have been presented with that search warrant.

Now that we know they took this boy, how many other American citizens have been 'disappeared' under the Patriot Act? How many families and friends have been left with the horror of not knowing where their loved one is at? Did they run away? Were they kidnapped? Are they dead? The unanswered questions are devastating!

Speaking of devastating, how awful is it to be an American citizen and be thrusted into an over-powering, government-sanctioned, clandestine world and have no rights accorded to you under the United States Constitution?

Sunshine is the best disinfectant. There has to be checks and balances. There are always rogue, gung-ho LEOs out there that must be held accountable. Often-times, LEOs & prosecutors, once proven wrong, cannot admit they made a mistake, making the citizen a double victim. We all lose. We lose our rights, faith in the process and in our tax dollars.

The U.S. Constitution must always prevail.

17. So I wonder if they're waterboarding him this very moment?
It's not torture after all, right? And they may need to use these enhanced interrogation techniques to get a confession out of him.

10. This needs more recs -- it should go viral. Public pressure needs to be brought to bare.
I understand there may have been justification for a search warrant, but to use the USA (un) Patriot Act to take a minor out of state and hold him incommunicado is NOT acceptable.

14. I'd be happy to see the Patriot Act repealed in its entirety, and I'm inclined to take the due
process issues here very seriously

But I have no idea what threats or other communications were involved in this case

The kid's mother may be making rounds on the right-wing talk show circuit, which might suggest something about the politics of his home

19. Three years ago I reported a family member missing to the
police department. The police station intake person told me to hold, and an officer got on the phone and said that my family member was with them. Mind you this family member works second shift, and was accused of being out drinking and taken into custody even though the breath test came back 0. What is very similar to our case is that no one will give us the video to the expert they brought in who also concluded that there was no mental impairment. The police chief said we had no rights, and no miranda rights were read until release. NO ONE CARES. We have spent thousands of dollars trying to get this video, and harassed via police squads parking in front of our home because of it. This women is not kidding when she says it's is like a third world country. I would just add, that it is more like a third world dictatorship.
