Because I suspect that Bo Dietl lifted my wallet and he should get the Iron Maiden until I get my money back.

15. reminds me of the question about 'if your wife was raped' Dukakis - gutter sludge

and actually the answer is 'why would I torture someone if I want to get the truth - and safeguard from inadvertently killing my only source of information?' as the 100 or so mysterious deaths in interrogation prisons

dead men tell no tales -

And, in fact, got the president's daughter back without torturing anyone.

36. Yeah, but on 24 torture is very effective.
Maybe fictional TV shows shouldn't be admissible as evidence.

and Obama should do what Bartlett did. Acting President Biden would not torture, even to get Obama's girls back (at least, I hope so).

16. This is disgusting and makes no sense...
Even if you dismiss the ugliness of his suggestion, how is this a rational argument if torture has been proven not to work?

You would have to think that Obama believes that torture works to ask him that horrible question. Since he believes (as most experts) that it doesn't work, it's easy to know what his answer would be.

How do these asshats not know they expose their ignorance on a daily basis?

20. Worse than garbage. Why is this here?
A "military intelligence" interrogator who doesn't have a clue
what a bleeping war crime is? Military? Horseshit. The guy
isn't military, he's a plain liar.

An "ex cop" who talks like a gangster, acts like a gangster,
probably IS a gangster... that's a bit more credible, alas,
but it doesn't mean he ain't just scum.

These animals abound in the world, especially on faux.
But this isn't DU material,
Please, WTF is this here?

28. Emotion
You have to understand that these kinds of people are very emotion oriented. Therefore, the what if question that includes the most emotional scenario they can come up with. They figure if the scenario is extreme enough emotionally it will show you the error of your rational ways. They do the same thing when discussing whether the death penalty is good or bad. They will come up with a scenario of the most heinous serial killer and then ask 'now would you be for it'. My answer to them on the death penalty is my opposition is to the government having sanction to kill people when we know that some innocent people will be executed if it is allowed and therefore any particular crime is not pertinent to my opposition. If somebody killed my mother would I want him dead? Damn right at a base emotional level even though having him rot in jail for 30 or 40 years would work. Would I want to sanction the government to execute him? No. The same with this if a terrorist kidnapped a family member would I want the information as soon as possible. Yes. Would I use torture to get it. No, first because I want good information and there is no guarantee that torture gets you that. Second, my time would probably be better spent actually doing some work figuring out what was going on. Lastly my opposition to torture is that it is wrong, questionably effective and lessens us as citizens of the world and if the person really doesn't know anything (is innocent) then it just becomes an evil thing to do.

32. "doing some work figuring out what was going on" -right. CIA, FBI, NSA,...
As faulty as these organizations can be; they DO serve a purpose. As if good "police work" is dead and the only thing that's left is barbaric torture. They'll defend violence to the bone before using actual intelligence to address a situation.

"lessens us as citizens of the world" and ironically defeats the purpose of having the "moral obligation" the right-wing likes to trumpet. How can someone believe a country is motivated by moral obligation when that country tortures people. If we are not better than those who torture, we have no "moral obligation".

A lot of those tortured were innocent. If they were not innocent, why has the pentagon turned them loose?
To drag little kids into this..let alone the children of our President is just despicable! Bring out the tar and feathers!!
If we cant do that...at least turn off the dang station!

31. besides the obvious sleaziness of it...
There's the complete idiocy of the whole "idea": if al-Qaeda kidnapped Sasha and/or Malia, would it really be that smart of Obama to start torturing people? Basically giving al-Qaeda full license to torture the girls, and he won't be able to say shit about it. Yeah, genius move.

That's why we don't torture, you orange motherfucker.

47. The correct answer is "NO, We Don't"
Because a principle of a nation is always more important than any one private loss of a citizen.

Of course, this answer would tend to get you into the Dukakis trap, which is what Dietl is rehashing here ("What if your wife was raped and murdered?" etc.), but the answer is very clear: No. What if the President was kidnapped, huh? No. How about your wife, Mr. President? No. We do not torture, period. It could be spun on their own absolutes: they say we NEVER negotiate with terrorists. So, what if Bo Dietl's wife was kidnapped by terrorists? Should we negotiate then? How about Barbara Bush? Should we negotiate then? How about Sasha and Malia? No, we don't negotiate with terrorists. So, if we can draw an absolute around that answer, why wouldn't we be able to draw an absolute around the No Torture answer?

The response should have been: What if we didn't have anybody to torture information out of, but we could negotiate for their release. Should we negotiate? If Dietl answers in the negative, then the same applies to to torture. Values are values, after all.
