1. My favorite Zappa fan!
Give 'em hell, Al!

Or tell them the truth and they think it's hell!

I think Al got the TKO on that one!

4. It's ludicrous, their focus on whether it's human-caused or not.
All that matters is whether future human activity can mitigate or reverse the effect. It's the effect that's the crisis, not the blame. They focus on the blame to postpone the simple rational conclusion that human activity should be directed toward reversing the effect.

From a logical point of view, they're short-circuiting the argument. They're implying that if humans are not the sole cause, then the effect can't be affected by human activity. Totally wrong, but it fires up those who distrust those "interfering liberal intellectuals".

10. from his official page on house.gov
Joe Barton was born on September 15, 1949 in Waco, Texas. An avid baseball player growing up, he earned a four-year Gifford-Hill Opportunity Award scholarship to Texas A&M University, where he was the outstanding industrial engineering student for the Class of 1972. After earning a Master’s of Science degree in Industrial Administration from Purdue University, he joined Ennis Business Forms, where he rose to the position of Assistant to the Vice President. In 1981, he was selected for the prestigious White House Fellows Program, and served as an aide to then-Energy Secretary James B. Edwards. He returned to Texas in 1982 as a natural gas decontrol consultant for Atlantic Richfield Oil and Gas Company before being elected to Congress.

When I was going to college at an engineering school (ca. 1976, not long after Barton), Industrial Engineering was considered the least intellectually demanding of the engineering fields... And baseball? management? I guess you do have to have a brain to remember baseball stats, but why would you want to?

11. well, based on his being a consultant for an oil and gas company
maybe he is just faking or trying to keep the evidence hidden for his own benefit.

what Gore said about companies wanting to keep evidence hidden could apply to him.

but from the way he smirked at Chu for suggesting moving plates is why there is oil in alaska i don't really think he is faking.
