America's Senator actually holds ONE of these thieves and criminals to account. ONE. Good job, Bernie. Someone should have to suffer because of their sins.

21. not so much
As of October 2006, he is the current Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the influential Washington-based financial advisory body, the Group of Thirty, and is a member of the Trilateral Commission. He has had a long association with the Rockefeller family, not only with his positions at Chase Bank and the Trilateral Commission, but also through membership of the Trust Committee of Rockefeller Group, Inc. (RGI), which he joined in 1987. That entity managed, at one time, the Rockefeller Center on behalf of the numerous members of the Rockefeller clan. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International House in Manhattan, NY. He was a founding member of the Trilateral Commission.

2. Perhaps they need to remind Obama of his own credo - the stakes are...
Edited on Fri Mar-27-09 09:52 AM by tomm2thumbs
... too high and the challenges are too great to play the same old Washington game with the same old Washington players and expect a different result.

I know there is the need to have people who know the business of Wall Street be involved in organization and regulation, but this one sounds a bit too much part of the 'same old' and not enough 'change for Washington' to me. I guess he was one of the few that was willing to run the gauntlet of congressional approvals and public review and that is limiting who will step up to the plate. Maybe everyone on Wall Street truly does have lots of detrimental 'baggage', but that just reinforces the point of changing things in a dramatic way.

Maybe they should think of hiring someone from outside of Wall Street this time around -

9. All he's asking for is a non-Wall Street appointee
He makes a good argument.

Gensler was a cheerleader for the Commodity Futures Modernization Act, the repeal of Glass-Steagall and was an employee of one of the worst firms participating in the looting of America's wealth.

And now Obama wants to hire him to FIX the problems?

It's kind of like hiring the getaway car driver to help investigate a bank robbery.

26. That is a scary thought!
Bernie represents my views more than anyone else in the Senate, but at this time, I'd like to see his influence grow and draw the country - and Congress - towards the progressive view over the next eight years. His running in '12 would result in another three-way mess, which could easily result in President Gingrich in '12. I'd better learn to speak Spanish, as that would definitely chase me down to Costa Rica.
