my avatar back! I went for POWER TO THE PEOPLE, because it seems that IS what's needed. We have "some" power renewed, but I'm still worried about so many things!!

38. Doing Well & Looking Forward To A Trip To San Fran Real Soon...
Living in this "ruby red" part of the country I'm afraid I may encounter a culture shock! The trip was not on my agenda at all, but an opportunity came up where someone gave me their frequent flier miles. My daughter went there last year and went ga-ga and she will be going with me! Only a week, but plan to make the best of it!

OR, maybe I should just stay out there. Unfortunately, my husband might not like it and I KNOW I can't afford it!

I see you've come back to DU and several other Edwards people, but many have not. I did sign up at Old Elm Tree, but never really jumped in. I know I should, it probably is much friendlier but I've been here so long it's just a "bad habit" of mine!

Take care... see you on the boards!

the website of the particular organization I'm donating to, again, in place of the fund drives....I always feel strange to be receiving something, items, etc. for my donations I'd rather it go to someone else donating. So I simply prefer donating when I choose and as often as I chose.

But to be honest, I wouldn't mind a Democracy Now coffee mug or two....

9. Amy Goodman -- the best informed journalist in America.
Amy goes where the news is. She asks the tough questions. For Amy, it is never about Amy. She is always focused on her guests and on her duty as a reporter to find the truth.

Bravo Amy Goodman!

She is one of the few true jouralists working in the US today. As much as I complain about most of the corporate media, I owe props to Shuster for this. Thanks for posting this wetzelbill!

25. Amy said 'we journalists'
It is a great feeling to be among so many Democracy Now! fans (and financial supporters of the show). Her subtlety with Schuster saying 'we journalists' need to, in essence, be the debate leaders. I don't think he got it. But as you have all noted, she was on the show. I saw her years ago on Hardball. We need her everywhere.

Let David know.

27. I like Amy Goodman but can't agree with her statement on what Obama should have said to the soldiers
He can't go out there and tell the military they died for nothing. Yes, it's the truth...but moral is dead with the military. 4300 and counting soldiers are dead and we've been at war for 8 years, lets get a bit real here. He would of course have the support of the people, but not that of his military which he had to focus on at that point. IF he was pres before we would NEVER have even gone to war in Iraq. But we did and there's nothing to change or ignore that. Give them a bit more what they need and then get them out.

32. LOVE Democracy Now AND Amy Goodman... She's SOOOOO Right On!!
Shuster is the second coming of Keith Olberman and has begun to get more forceful which is GREAT! I suspect he will be in line to take over Hardball if Tweety leaves. One can only hope anyway!

A reporter who does his work and is allowed to present it. Guess there are SOME in the MSM arena who have "seen the light!"

I had already seen this but thanks for the video clip, it's GREAT!

41. I would say it's probably too many
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 02:03 PM by Wetzelbill
Troops are troops, they can say they aren't combat troops but residual troops but, the point is, as long as they are there they have a target on their backs. Is that worth it? I don't really think so. I'm not a military or troop level expert by any means, but how many do you need to guard that embassy? 50 thousand sound like a lot to me. And how much will it cost? Is it sustainable? The United States has to decide if we're going to be the world's leader or simply just another empire on it's way to failure. It's not smart to extend ourselves into so many countries, it costs too much.

on edit:

I should add that in some cases yes were are in places out of national interest, some of it is viable, but too much of is isn't. We don't need to have bases where it serves no real purpose.
