3. But until we HAVE the alternative sources, we need to drive less. And even after we have them.
Burning too much ethanol might end up being just as bad for the Earth as burning too much gasoline.

5. I would like to know how I can drive less?
I only go when I need, I combine trips and I go to and from work. My leisure travel has all but disappeared.

America is not set up to drive less, Public Transportation is not an option here. I live 10 miles from work, My parents and my wifes parents life in the mid-west. I have a child in college in Florida.

Where do I cut back?

Driving less in America is not an option, we need alternatives to OIL and no one is moving on this.

When bu$h assumed control of the United States, gas was $1.46 a gallon. Exxon-Mobil is making record profits, but I have to cut back? We are just getting screwed by these people and it has to stop.

8. I didn't say that EVERYONE could cut back. But there are a HELL of a lot of Americans who CAN.
They're just too lazy to.

I have some rather large problems with being able to walk sometimes, but I'll be DAMNED if I'll drive the 1/4 mile to the drugstore at the corner. But I have perfectly healthy neighbors who do it all the time. I'll bet you know a LOT of people like that, too.

Good that you're doing your part. You know I wasn't talking about you or people who do what you do.

9. A lot of words....
I appreciate words...but only if they are followed with good deeds. The oil subsidies need to be rolled back. These politicians, republicans and democrats alike, had better do something to lead this nation to oil independence and moving us forward with alternative energy research and implimentation. I am fed up with our lives being controlled by big oil and corporate profit interests. It's time "we the people" means something. I am not "anti-capitalist", but I am definitely anti-corporation and big business. Enough is enough is enough!!!

13. Efficient Water based Fuel Cells are being denied....
They do exist.

They are just trying to figure out a way to get us to pay 2 bucks a gallon for something we can collect for free everytime it rains.

It works and Stan Meyers was found dead and the next day his house was ransacked and the dune buggy stolen. Of course, I do not believe in CT, so I am just pointing this out because there are now a lot of independant people working on it and the technology works. Click the link and start crying...scientist have known about this for years.

http://www.waterfuelcell.org/

Google the Joe Cell...an efficient cell you can make for pennies, it does work.

10. Denial won't change the horror
The world already reached peak oil production in the '70s. go to www.clusterfucknation.com and read all about it. Our "happy motoring" society built with mega miles of roads and hiways was never intended to survive without cars. Our industries including farming are all intertwined and based on oil. The worst thing we could have done was demolish our nation wide train systems. Look around you, where you live, where you work, where your friends and family live and imagine there are no cars, or trucks, or tractors, or other farm equipment. Look at your energy for heating and cooling and electricity without oil. With the worlds huge consumption rates how gradual do you believe our withdrawal will be..$10gal is nothing to the ultra rich. You can see who will be without it first. Already 3rd world countries cannot compete with the large industrial nations for oil contracts. 2006 Exxon/Mobile reported net profit of $39.6 BILLION for the quarter. War profiteering bucks and they still make us pay over $3gal. So glad we could provide the war for them and Haliburton and KBR to send profits through the roof and cost the taxpayer trillions (deaths don't count). Laws be damned..wrong is wrong. Can't stop the corporations with needed reform till we have campaign reform so our representatives don't have to depend on corporate money to run for office. Free air time not million dollar minutes for media corps.. Take the profiteering out of elections and campaigns by an election tax and then we will get corporate reform and bring run away profits back to the pockets of the citizens. That's where we start to bring $3/gal issues back in line with the public use rather than corporate manipulation.

12. You know that "we" didn't demolish the rail system, any more than "we"
destroyed the public transportation systems in our cities, don't you?

11. This is just more nonsense
RAISE CAFE. It's the only answer. Unless you want to see $10 gas which finally forces people to drastically cut back driving and develop alternatives. Ethanol is not a good answer unless we research it more and make it more efficient.

14. What about a water powered car?
Edited on Thu May-10-07 09:00 AM by saddlesore
Add a solar panel to recharge the batteries and this becomes pretty efficient. Not so certain about the carbon expenditure required to produce the solar panels...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=resxQ9PgiqY

Although Stan Meyers already did the TOTALLY WATER POWERED CAR...10 years ago. This one mixes with gas...

15. Speaker Pelosi---high gas prices
It is no mystery why San Francisco has the highest gas prices in the U.S. and California in general the highest cost of gas of any state in the U. S. Democrat Pelosi is from SF and its to put her down. California is a Blue State and therefore has to pay at the pump for that. Wyoming, Cheney's State has the lowest cost of gas in the country. CONNECT THE DOTS.
I live just off Sunset in Los Angeles. Three blocks from my home is an oil rig pumping oil 24 hours a day. Within 3 miles of my home there are several pumps taking oil out of the ground 24/7. 15 miles from Sunset is the largest oil refinery in the Westpumping 24/7. So how is it that we have the highest gas prices? POLITICS.

THERE IS ONLY ONE IMMEDIATE SOLUTION. NATIONALIZE THE OIL COMPANIES UNTIL WE HAVE ENOUGH RENEWABLE ENERGY THAT WE DONT HAVE TO BE DEPENDENT UPON THEIR CORRUPT AND CROOKED
PRICING.

NATIONALIZE, NATIONALIZE, NATIONALIZE, NATIONALIZE!!!!!!

AND THEN PUT ALL THE OIL EXECUTIVES IN JAIL FOR PRICE GOUGING.

16. so what your saying is that...
...the cost of living in Wyoming is much lower then that of California because of politics?

Politics. That's the difference of the two state's economies???

I don't think so.
