I was just shooting a documentary about the school and he rolled up in front of my cameras. It was shocking to me after he picked up the prostitute that he only drove around the school to the other side and took her into the back of an empty overgrown lot.

defending this roofer is beyond me. There is a place and time to do these types of things, and in the middle of the day 1/2 a block from a school while in a company vehicle is not one of them. He should be ashamed. And all of you should be ashamed for even remotely defending whether this guy deserves to keep his job.

30. A friend from college grew up in Collingswood and took a few of

us on a "tour" of Camden one night in 1992 because we didn't believe the horror stories he used to tell about what went on there. In a 20 minute drive, we passed dozens of hookers and dealers, saw maybe four functioning traffic lights, heard three separate incidents of gunfire and ended up getting chased out of town by a car with no headlights. It was the scariest place I have ever been even to this day. It doesn't sound like things have improved.

It has improved since then. I have worked with three of the high schools and worked with many of the students. There is talent and kids who will help the city even get better.

This did not happen across the street from an adult bookstore. This happened across the street from a high school. I was not there to film this. I was there to film the school and the students. I never left the school property while filming the video.

34. Camden is a scary place.

My 2 brothers-in-law "live" there - one sells crack, the other does it in between running dope from Point A - Point Z.

Some of the horror stories, just ugh! but probably no different than any other inner city.

I was raised in Lawnside, went to Paul VI and Camden Catholic HS and used to take PATCO (from Ashland Station) while working in Philly (SSA branch used to be at 19th and Arch).

I remember when they were redoing area around Cooper Hospital but didn't stay long enough to know whether it was successful or not and my sister was hospitalized in Lady of Lourdes.

Lots of hopelessness in Camden, lots of hope too.

35. I know you are getting some negative reactions here, but I applaud you.

This is how you have to fight to keep a neighborhood from descending into a high crime zone. Not necessarily filming, but definitely calling the police. Where there are prostitutes there are drugs. Where there are drugs there are weapons. Put them all together and you have burglary, vandalism and robbery.

I live near an old high school that has a lot of this kind of action around it. The school looks and feels like a prison. A friend who works there says that the entire first week is consumed with addressing scheduling and seating arrangements to account for incompatible gang members. The police come in all the time to look through the principal's big book of mug shot style student photos, investigating area crimes. How the hell can kids can learn when all this stuff is going on around them?

Sorry if it sounds puritanical to some, but screw that roofer. No doubt he lives in a nicer, cleaner part of town with respectable women who don't do "those things." He will come to a poor neighborhood to ugly it up and then go back to his safe little world.

My heart breaks for women like this. I have done years of work with women in the sex industry, in particular immigrant prostitutes. I don't like the idea of shaming them into changing their ways. Still, I don't think that is what you are doing here nor what your intention was.
