12. Forgive this off topic idea...
Reading your sig line I had a really odd thought. Imagine an alternate universe where Norma Jean did not go to California to be in movies but just to start a fresh life. She eventually gets into politics, runs for governor against Reagan, wins and goes on to become the first woman President of the United States.

15. going off topic with you a moment---
I love your little alternate reality fantasy here!
I was reading the sig line and feeling sad that MM was so marginalized; I like your thought better :)

I do that too sometimes--dream up alternate scenarios for "world events"....
I have one that has been with me since I was a kid, an alternate Hitler daydream.

2. We don't need a "joe the plummer" on the progressive side...
I hate to see this fella get any more attention than is necessary. YES, he was a bit of a spark plug and definite example of the lower middle class trying to better their lives...but no more.

Good that he got the spotlight. Now, good that we forget him just as fast. HIM....not his plight.

11. Oh you be nice, at least this kid isn't pretending to be someone he isn't
We can't have a "Joe the Plumber" anyways, it takes a perfect storm of bullshit that can only be blown in from the right. You won't see this kid blogging on HuffPo, he won't be a war correspondent, there is no political run in his future, and I don't think anyone is going to ask him his input to save the party.

Joe the Plumber and this kid are two COMPLETELY different things. Let him enjoy his moment, I say he is beautiful!

3. Hey,
he's nineteen years old. What the hell does he know about anything? I disagree with the meth reference. I've known a few cracked-out people in my life and I feel safe in declaring this was just a very young man trying to figure out what the hell to do with the rest of his life and truly, sincerely asking for some help. He may be a bit over-excitable. Some of us are. Are we going to turn our backs on him and declare him a wingnut without offering anything of substance about the life he is now just beginning?

Just sayin'

Some of the responses are just sad... We're not supposed to eat our own... (at least not after primary season) Cut the kid some slack. He's 19 years old. This is a good thing; young people excited about politics. This IS what we wanted.

10. You know what, this kid's got a sweet soul IMO
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 01:11 AM by Turborama
We shouldn't be mistaking his enthusiam for drug abuse. I think it's refreshing to see someone his age and income bracket so excited about politics. For someone who's obviously trying real hard to make it in this world, he has a positive/vibrant energy which is hopefully infectious to other people his age.

Compare that to this...

and you'll see why I find this guy refreshing...

16. Point made!
Julio's enthusiasm is w-o-r-l-d-s more refreshing than the hatred spewed by the others.
