while Paul Krugman is telling us that deflation is self feeding. I will believe Krugman.

He was on Morning Joe earlier:

5. K & R. Best Maddow Segment I've Ever Seen.
Granted, I'd prefer she say B.S. (the abbreviation, I know she can't say "bullshit") rather than "bull puckey", but that's a minor criticism. :)

She was brilliant. And HOPEFULLY she wakes up some of the Dems that insist on pretending that everything has been handled perfectly with the stimulus plan and that bipartisanship in this current climate is needed, etc.

23. Agreed....
on preferring that she call B.S. just that, rather than "bull puckey" -- but it did serve as a nice set-up for when she observed that with the bill now being comprised of 42% tax cuts in order to appease the Repubs, the country has already been "42% pucked." ;) I loved that!

11. Time to change the senate rules.Kevin Drum listed a senate rule how to do it...
"...I'm a little fuzzy on my Senate procedures, but Kevin Drum noted the other day that if Senate Republicans balk at a rescue plan and filibuster the proposal, "the Democratic leadership would just turn around and consider the bill under budget reconciliation rules, which require only a majority vote to pass. Sure, they've already said they'd prefer not to do that, but if they have to they will. And since the bill is all about short-term spending, it would obviously qualify under reconciliation rules."

Does anyone know if that's the case? And if so, doesn't that mean the Democratic leadership can just stop trying to make more cuts to a bill that probably isn't big enough anyway?..."

Got this today from Steve Benen's site at the Washington Monthly. Does any one know if this can be done...if so let us and the senate and the press KNOW...PLEASE.

12. btw...I have a dream desire. Just once I want to SLAP Lindsay Graham's face.
Everytime he speaks his mouth and his ass give the same information. Always wrong and always bitching with that authoritarian attitude. The whole party acts like they stopped listening to the American public and still insist on doing the same things that brought us this disaster and why we voted them out.

McCain never knew what he was talking about on the economy...ever...but is every lobbyist's pet senator on a leash and so goes out and tries to undermine the democrats economic plan...except he still doesn't know what he's talking about...it's downright embarrassing..."Give ME more money with tax cuts, seven houses isn't enough...oh yeah ...and country first and all that...and if you don't do what I say then you're not bipartisan"....what a fucking idiot.

32. Because they're trying too hard to be "fair & balanced"
It's that all-American idea that every issue has two sides. No more, no less: just two.

Thus, Democrat arguments need to be "balanced" with Republican opinions.
Liberal policies need to be "balanced" with conservative spin.
And correct ideas need to be "balanced" with wrong ones.

24. Yeah, Rachel! Now thats what I am talking about, a real critical investigative PROGRESSIVE voice.
And I thank MSNBC for allowing it.

I hope they find a way to put 1 trillion into the economy and
use federal nationals banks to serve our debts, our payroll,
our social security and our savings, if we ever get to save
again.

I am so pissed at the rude way these banks are handling debt
gone wrong (doubling interest rates has to be criminal) that I
just don't want to pay them anymore. And I have paid on time,
and in full for over twenty years to these greedy bastards,
propped up by our Congress. Let them die. They are
dinosaurs, let them die. It would take five minutes for the
government to set up 50 banks in every state, or take over the
failing banks and nationalize them, and put us to work
managing the federal money. And then small businesses could
step right up, get their funds and start getting peeps back to
work.

Please, oh, please oh please, Obama and Democrats across this
nation. This is crucial. The repugs are still wet dreaming
about their prisons for profits, and their starvations, and
their stress trigger to downsize our population in the ugliest
ways. We got to override those fuckers. NOW!

36. You say:
"It would take five minutes for the government to set up 50 banks in every state, or take over
the failing banks and nationalize them, and put us to work managing the federal money. And then small businesses could step right up, get their funds and start getting peeps back
to work."

The whole protocol that you are mentioning was already used once back in the 1980's when the S & L debacle occurred. It worked a bit different: governors appointed commissions to choose community banks in each area of the state. And those community banks were then offered the chance to have the state charter apply. The Feds gave the states the monies, the state gave these regional state chartered banks the dough, the dough was dispensed (nor hoarded like the large banks are doing with the bailout funds right now) and the economy went back to normal.

Issa, who with Kucinich has given Kashkari and Paulson hell, has suggested this be re-implemented and right away. I don't like Issa on social issues, but in terms of the economy he is spot on.

41. Democracy?
:wtf: When the Republicans had much smaller majorities in congress than the Democrats now possess, they just whistled and the Democrats came running to kiss their asses. Now that the Democrats have the White House and the largest congressional majorities in a generation, they remain exactly the same tail wagging ass kissers. On their first major piece of legislation they permit Blue Dogs to steal their majority by crossing over to Confederate Republicans who blackmail them with threats of filibusters unless billions more in tax dollars are diverted into the coffers of great wealth. They have already conceded control of Congress to this alliance of reactionary conservatives. It's heartbreaking.
