Based on http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18405363

WASHINGTON - The Food and Drug Adminstration said Tuesday that as many as 3 million chickens that may have been given contaminated feed containing melamine have already been eaten by consumers, according to NBC News.

Although the chickens, which came from 38 poultry farms in Indiana, have already made their way into the food supply, there appears to be minimal or no health risk to humans, the government said.

The Agriculture Department and the FDA said in a joint statement Monday that officials learned of the link between the chicken feed and tainted pet food as part of the investigation into imported rice protein concentrate and wheat gluten that have been found to contain the industrial chemical melamine and related compounds.

2. 3 million chickens who ate melamine were eaten by people.
There's another thread at itchmo about milk replacement for young animals.

It seems endless.

What is not contaminated?

5. As I look over these articles the FDA and News media
has distorted how bad it is
first it was a few pets then it was more pets and more recalls then thousands pets die and more recalls and then over the months it was the wheat gluten then the rice gluten fed to pigs then its moved to poultry feed now they are looking at other products

330 tested but what are the names of the ones tested???

and melamine cyu something is TOXIC
now we are hearing that

and now the USDA is investigating as well as the FDA

and still China imports roll in

3. I'm watching "Democracy Now" reporting on the

awarding of the Pulitzer Prize to the NY Daily News for its five month series on the medical fallout from the 9/11 attacks. More than 12,000 people have fallen ill from exposure to the contaminated air around Ground Zero.

The Pulitzer Prize did not mention Daily News columnist and Democracy Now co-host Juan Gonzalez. Juan was the first journalist to question the official story that the air was safe. After government complaints, the Daily News moved his columns to the back pages of the paper. So they got the Pulitzer and Juan apparently got the shaft.

The problem is not just China, but our own government, which has shown many times that it is willing to lie to us about various dangers to our health.

Will the comment about these 3 million chickens -- "there appears to be minimal or no health risk to humans, the government said" -- turn out to be another governmental lie?

and there's a contact button on the right side of the top bar, just below a circle that has the words "Donate to DN!"

Or maybe you should go here:

Look down near the bottom of the page and you'll find:

They have live streaming, etc. I never go to their site, just watch it on LINK TV, but I should visit the site more often.

reports were that the coal by-product, melamine, which is void of nutritional value yet tests as though it is not (very lucrative to someone i am sure) was used across a host of such products,

it is one thing jump the claim & copyright on CD's, Levi's, compu chips, and a host of products already flowing through 'free markets', but quite another to knowingly taint a nation's food supply

8. Yep, melamine tests as though

it is protein, though it is actually just extra nitrogen, and the pet food manufacturers raised prices on the basis of this nonexistent "extra protein."

Greedy, soulless bastards. :grr:

11. the downside to un-plausible deniability; everybody rushing for the bottom line...
no new ideas on the horizon, too much R&D money out front to make that happen, then some country with more coal than a dozen West VA's and a powerful hankering to develop/market every last molecule of it walks up with a vile full of bench testable nothing and BAM!

a new Hallmark Card for someone's bucket filled of dead puppies...

eh, pure bred breeders don't but that stuff anyway is my guess, but one of the real rubs for me is that even if & when someone found out about it...by the time they yell, "STOP, The Machine!!" china pumps 30-40,000,000 units out the back door so yeah,

oversight is key, which is why our capitalists love the place cause there ain't none

we have a friend who's dad sells photo-lithographic reduction processors to china (here come the chips), and over turkey dinner a couple years back was going on & on about having to only pay the chinese $.85cts/hr for what he'd pay an american 18-$20+ per hr, so i'm hearing you there as well,

but he also buys software in china for 10's of dollars that they have pirated costing elsewhere upwards of a $1,000

it does, it would seem, take two to tango

30. $150 Billion trade deficit for 2004
Edited on Sat May-05-07 02:32 AM by candice
A new study has found that the United States' growing trade deficit with China has had an increasingly negative impact on the U.S. economy, causing job losses that reach into the most technologically advanced industries in the manufacturing sector and affect every state, according to a January 11 press release by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC).

http://usinfo.state.gov/ei/Archive/2005/Jan/12-31762.html

...

The study noted that the pace of job loss has more than doubled since China entered the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, and that China's exports to the United States of sophisticated electronics and communications equipment requiring skilled labor are growing much more quickly than its exports of low-value, labor-intensive products.

"The assumptions we built our trade relationship with China on have proven to be a house of cards," Scott said. "Everyone knew we would lose jobs in labor-intensive industries like textiles and apparel, but we thought we could hold our own in the capital-intensive, high-tech arena. The numbers we're seeing now put the lie to that hope -- as China expands its share even in core industries such as autos and aerospace."http://usinfo.state.gov/ei/

12. I have posted this several times, but I am gonna post yet again
everyone has to stop eating processed foods i.e. convenience foods (haha)

Buy everything free range organic, make everything you want from scratch. Learn how to can so when you make soup you can make a huge batch and have a years supply. Buy a bread machine and and ice cream machine (yummy) If you want a cookie make it from scratch you don't have to give up anything plus it tastes way better.

This melamine is only what we know about at the moment. The truth is every time you eat something processed you are poisoning yourself with chemicals.

21. I saw that even Boca burgers have wheat gluten in them
I'm not saying melamine is in them, because I don't know where they get their wheat gluten from. I just wonder what else the melamine could be in. Has anyone looked into this?

Without more research there is no way of knowing unless you eat only unprocessed, home cooked foods!

...which as you said, only eat unprocessed foods!

I wonder when this will affect the beef industry as they surely feed their livestock wheat and other grains. Testing for this too might fall under the same safety testing guise as the whole mad-cow disease where the US only tests .0005% of all cattle slaughtered.

Want to really bring a nation to its knees? Contaminate the food (or water) supply. Profits first, safety later. Special thanks to our government for once again, allowing this to happen!

29. What is unbelievable is that most of our vitamins/supplements are Made in China...
China is much less capable of verifying quality than we are, which isn't saying much since the FDA has been gutted. Polluted water, soil, and air made me toss the Chinese herbs I bought there (I felt they might be contaminated with heavy metals, such as lead for some reason). Now I read that Waxman has said that lead has been found in vitamins imported from China. A billion-dollar industry based on health should not be based in China. The products labels do not say Made in China-- if they did, how many people would buy them? Germany, in contrast, has extremely high standards for vitamins/supplements.

14. Everything is contaminated
EVERYTHING.

And it is the corporations being unrestrained unregulated beholden to shareholders and profit and NOT human beings is why everything is contaminated. To hell with their"proprietary information" and their "ownership and patents" THese corporations mainly their highest paid executives have CAUSED this.Because we fell for the myths a corporation can care about something besides it's bottom line& itself.. can manage itself privately..

THE CORPORATION is an organizational psychopath.

They cannot be trusted,or given privacy or hide their deeds behind proprietary rights, they certainly are not persons or deserve rights like persons.Corporations are shameful poisoners , mainly the CEO's who own the damn things have harmed us all.

28. for the most part
I can't afford it.SSI isn't the kind of income to give you many options. I usually spend the last week of the month broke or almost broke. When I lived in a different place I would hit the farmers market, every week and I loved it.Prices were do able at the farmers market. But where I live now the farmers market is open on saturdays and the cheesy ass bus out in this suburban hellhole doesn't run on saturdays.I live out here because it's my moms house, rent I can afford,I have been waiting for section 8 but who the hell knows how long the wait is? Bush has made cuts in all the programs disabled people need..In some places it's like ten years to get section certificate and it is very hard to find any apartments that accept what section 8 pays...But getting around in a town made for the almighty auto is really hard to do when you can't drive.I have tried to get a license I fail the eye test everytime..So being car-less in a car ridden place it impacts what I eat is based on what I can get and carry the half mile walk to and from the bus,If I want to get whatever at giant the walk is a bit longer but I can go there without long waits and the bus hassles.Out here it takes up an entire day to go anywhere. You see people out here are so scared of poor/homeless people (infected by Nimby and ignorance )shopping centers do not put out benches or set up places to sit to rest or get out of the rain at bus stops. That's what happens when you live in a town where most people are richer than you hate the poor they have their ways of shutting you out..it's a subtle but really hateful thing. Most people I talk to never consider how many barriers in some towns there are to poor people getting what they need to survive.

I didn't realize I was making a horror film when I did this

But the people around the world who didn't care about their land and rivers and animals are going to realize there mistakes too late

I see its now up to 20 million chickens all I can say is it entered the food supply
