Even if you disagree with Cenk here (which means ) you have to give him credit for solid criticism. He's a staunch Obama supporter but if he disagrees with him on issues he won't pretend otherwise like some hosts.

Also, check these out:

2. Unfortunately I agree. I think both the business & personal income tax are very bad ideas.
I am for him keeping his orignal tax cut that he promised to all middle class people and I don't have a problem with tax credits for the lower middle class and poor people as this would be an immediate stimulus. Truly middle class people are so afraid that they will simply pay down debt (which is smart for each family but defeats the purpose as a country).

And business tax cuts to expand purchases of equipment. Tjis is out-and-out supply side economics which has never worked in a good economy let alone a terrible one. No company ever uses money to expand if the business isn't there no matter how big you make the tax cut.

Essentially, what this means to me, is that if you have a total package of $700 billion this means that we are going to have only $400 really helping and the rest just pretty much flushed as far as the goal of investing in the country and strengthening the economy. Then what happens if we realize that $400 billion was not enough. Then I think we are in deep shit.

4. I agree. Businesses don't expand because you give them more money.
They expand when they see customers with more money. Customers are also known as people with jobs. You gotta get more money to middle class people. And you do that by creating jobs. Wherever you create a lot of jobs, you will create an expanding prosperity zone.

Here's an idea for a government jobs program: Let's rebuild New Orleans. And Waveland. And Galveston.

15. Kill the Republican Party
:patriot: The Democrats should reach across the isle to drive a stake through the dark heart of the GOP. The country doesn't need a Republican Party. There are more than enough Republicans in the Democratic Party to maintain a two party system.

5. I'm with Cenk too. Not so much on the spending,
as with how PE Obama has agreed for it to be spent. I was especially excited about the green jobs, as anyone who knows me is aware. I really believe that is the way out of many of our current predicaments, both short and long term.

Now everyone gets 500 bucks, and the pukes get even more tax cuts? FUCK! How about we force these Trillion Dollar Welfare recipients to open up some credit lines again instead of allowing them to blow it on bonuses and expansions into other markets?

For what? Some pie in the sky ideal about bi-partisanship that will last exactly as long as it benefits pubs? One Senator does not a mandate make. Threaten them like they did us with changing the rules for filibuster. Grow a set!

:argh:

7. I hope repubs do work with us.
I just don't see them even being capable at this point. Everything is so divisive, which is just the way they like it. Hell it is there only hope.

I just hope if they decide not to that we have the nerve to stand up. It's not like they can do anything, they are only as politically relevant as we allow them to be at this point.

It isn't that I am against working with them. They just need to know their place, for lack of a better term, and the fact that damn near three in four Americans put them there.

11. I had hopes that
Obama would eventually put forward a plan to rebuild our railroads. Perhaps we'll have to wait for that, maybe even for the next Democratic President. While clearly it's a good idea to repair and rebuild some roads and bridges, and clearly it's a good idea to promote green energy... what we seem to be hearing is very generalized.

I agree with Cenk in regards to giving out 500 dollar checks though. Bad idea. Even the 1,000 proposed for families, while a few might use it well, it's not going to last long, nor is spending it going to show a lasting benefit.

We really need a decent public transportation system. Hell, a plan to rebuild the railroads might even go further towards accomplishing the suggested goal of unity. I think we need something a little bigger than what Obama is proposing.

12. I agree Cenk-
I also agree with the poster about building up our rail system. That would save so much energy if we had freight/people moving across country via rail.

Thanks Cenk-

14. Cenk has it right
Cenk is right the Republicans do not believe in 'good faith' negotiations. Republicans want it their way or no way so negotiating to them means how far can they get the Democrats to move in the direction of what the Republicans want. A political example would be the Republicans taking a moderate right wing position some legislation and trying to get some of the Democrats to buy on because it isn't a real radical position. As soon as they pass the 'moderate' measure they retrench with a hard right wing position on the same or similar legislation but sell it as moderate and claim the Democrats aren't negotiating in 'good faith'. Thus they end up consistently moving the agenda toward their ultimate goal which is having it their way.

As much as I would like to see an end to the crass partisanship in Washington DC you will have to truly break the backs of the neo-cons/hard rightwingers before you can do that. If you can show the Republicans that you will not fall for their scams and that you are capable of moving forward without them (nuclear option if necessary) you may eventually get them to come to the negotiating table to actually come up with good solutions without weighing it against their long term agenda. If the Democrats can get to 60+ in the Senate in 2010 this may happen. The Republican echo chamber only works well when they have someway (filibuster) to wield power even when they are in the minority. If they have no power to influence within Congress then the echo chamber just becomes a bunch of whining.

16. 100% right, 0% wrong!
This is the thing I worried about with Obama (and the reason it took me a while to get on board): this notion of "post-partisanship" which is basically nothing more than appeasement of republicans. It's not gonna work and, as Cenk said, it will only put us further in the hole!
