A teenager who worked as a virtual child slave for a family in Egypt and then accompanied the family to the U.S. when she was just ten-years-old looks back at her ordeal. (Dec. 28)

3. Nice to see one of these horror stories end happily.

I recall going WTF when Bush mentioned slavery and human trafficking in a speech once. I was an ignorant, naive, fool, then. There was another thread on this recently and it changed me, as so much here does.

It is hard to believe there are more slaves now than at any other time in history, but it's true. This shit has got to get more attention. K&R

5. it is light
It often happens, though, that people guilty of unlawful imprisonment receive less time in prison than the time their victim spent in captivity. I think two days for every one day should be the minimum.

6. not to mention too, she was underage.
couldn't that also be some kind of kidnapping plus forging documents to get here here?
plus endagerment for making her sleep on the garage floor?

i also read the 75K was based on minimum wage. they should have been at least been required to pay her what the going rate for a regular house keeper.

(i read an article about this some other place)

7. I say take what you can get.
I agree with all of your points here. Sadly, I just don't see enough justice these days, so I am happy even to hear that these bastards went to jail and were deported as a result. Regardless of whether she was paid at minimum wage or not, I am just happy to see that she did get paid for two years of work, which is the real point to that judgement.

Whether it was kidnapping or not is an interesting question. Many victims of kidnapping have the understanding that they can not leave their captors. You see so many cases where you wonder, "Why didn't that person just leave?", but the reality is that after a certain period of conditioning, they do not believe that they are able to. It is still Kidnapping in those cases as well. I am not a lawyer, but I would think that they would have a case for kidnapping and I am pretty sure that if they thought that they could prove those charges, they would have.

10. My biggest concern is for those not detected and freed yet
If facing prison and deportment, would people consider killing a kid to remove the danger from them of detection and legal consequences. That is something to think about.
