'The Americanization of our cultures is primarily driven by the media (watch my other videos & read the commentaries)
---
Union of Concerned Scientists:
http://www.ucsusa.org/
---
This expresses pretty much all that I have to say: (It is not very formal and does not feature academic papers and sources, so be critical of it.)
It is aligned with my IMO rational and educated view:
http://www.ngos.net/usa/index.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporatocracy

Quotes:
"The biggest capitalist business in USA America is Pornography...the total cable system, Cablevision, Time Warner, Disney, Marriott, Hilton, AT&T and all the rest of Americas biggest hotels and many legitimate corporations can peddle porn right inside your house to your children via the internet without even asking you."
LEARN:You do not get to see this anywhere else in the world:
"School officials in an Indiana school district are confirming that two sixth grade students had sex in an open classroom while the teacher was distracted and other students looked on."
http://educationwonk.blogspot.com/2007/03/student-sex-scandal-rocks-indiana.html
And here is how this comes about and the media works in your children`s brain (though even worse as the brain is still extremely plastic at that stage and synapsing - swiftly consolidating a human personality):

*)Take a look at the video description here:

*)America as a system is not even corrupt, because the entire culture incorporates and embraces capitalism, nationalism and patriotism. What looks insane to an outsider, are indeed strongly defended and cherished values of Americans.

However such values cannot be objectively rationalized and thus scrutinized by Americans, because they lack the necessary education.

It is obvious that, America has lost its Democracy to a Corporatocracy.

PS: What his guy explains rather informally, has been studied profoundly on the level of neurobiology and neuropsychology - in the end the media is everything to corporations in the 21st century. It is a part of the lifeblood of the economy.

"In his book The World We're In (published in the States as A Declaration of Interdependence), British journalist Will Hutton argues that economic structures must fit the cultural norms of the societies they operate in. The United States and Europe offer two very different economic-cultural templates. Today's America is dominated by the conservative Right. Their individualistic, free-market philosophy -- which believes that high taxes, welfare programmes and affirmative action diminish human freedom -- originates in the Protestant, pioneer tradition of the early American settlers. They came to the New World seeking religious freedom and fought the War of Independence against the arbitrary imposition of illegitimate political authority. In the wide expanse of the American continent, there was enough land for everybody, and the founders' Protestant faith convinced them that prosperity was the reward for hard work. The job of the state was to prevent the infringement of basic liberties -- foremost among which was the inviolability of personal property."...READ ON!'

3. unreasonable now to expect old style news
why expect journalism schools to educate journalists to be adequate interpretators? There is too much past history to absorb,it grows daily, exponentially.
