CBS News w/ KATIE COURIC - Dec. 12, 2008: United Auto Workers' President Ron Gettelfinger tells Katie Couric there was nothing his union could do to help Congress pass the auto industry bailout bill.

1. For shame 42 days off a year including 5 weeks vacation

and 17 paid days. That is 5 weeks vacation or 25 paid days and 17 other paid days off, that totals 42 days. I get 5 weeks vacation and 10 paid days off that's 25 paid vacation days and 10 holidays for a total of 35 days. I believe the extra 7 days the auto worker get are sick days. I have heard in Germany everyone is required to take 5 weeks vacation a year, those Socialist Pinkos. How many paid days does a teacher get how many sick days? How many holidays do government agencies observe. How many days off does a Congressman get? How many days does W spend at Camp David or out on the Pig Farm? I also assume the new hire is not getting 5 weeks vacation the first year, as a steelworker it takes 25 years service to earn a 5 week vacation and I imagine about the same in the UAW. Another thing I believe the UAW accepted a two tier wage scale just last year, that's where a new employee starts at a much lower wage and is not paid full scale for years maybe never I don't know..

2. One of these Faux News junkies told me the other day

GM had 350,000 people on the jobs bank program, that is if you lose your job you get 95% of your pay for a period of time. Well he actually slightly inflated that figure it is 3500 but he may have heard that on Faux. We have had that in the steel industry for decades it's called SUB or Supplemental Unemployment Benefit when you are unemployed you get your state check and a SUB check that totals 85% of our wage.

3. The UAW made election day a holiday, the repugs HATE it because more

dems can get out and vote. They will do ANYTHING to win!:mad:
