balloons...:eyes:

37. Would you say the tree symbolize Sarah Palin
On the surface....hey look a beautiful tree..... As things progressed, each one of those branches took out alot of votes.

At second glance, wow that tree is pretty ugly.... grey... branches sticking out causing pain.

Rather typical of the inflated notion of themselves that somepeople have.

16. "Inflated" is definitely the operative word here, LOL.
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 02:47 AM by Rhiannon12866
These folks do have an inflated opinion of themselves and their beliefs which defies reality (I've read FR) and their attempts to inflate and release balloons are equally flawed...

38. I guess I can understand why older people are Republicans, since they always have been,
but "Young Republicans" totally boggle my mind... I agree that they are dangerous, since they must have a distorted view of the world, which comes from swallowing all the lies...:scared:

Most of my family are Republicans, though I have won over my two closest cousins just by sharing the facts. One of them even even shares things with me now...:-)

My parents are another story. My Dad was, I think, a Goldwater Republican, which is not such a bad thing because, from what I have read, he was a pretty stand-up guy. I saw him once on The Tonight Show and Leno was trying to goad him into criticizing then-President Clinton. He refused, saying that "He is my president, too..." And my Dad was a generous soul and very intelligent. I could talk to him without rancor and I just cannot imagine that he could have supported Bush*...

My mother, on the other hand, is impossible. She watches FIXED News and believes all the lies. I try to avoid political discussions with her, but she brings things up and I just can't help myself. I know what she believes and she agrees with Bush* on very little. She's pro-choice, has nothing against gay people, and think she just puts the wars out of her mind, easy to do if you watch FIXED News...:-(

I once asked her who was responsible for 9/11, afraid but expecting that she'd say it was Saddam Hussein. But she totally floored me by saying it was the Palestinians! Yikes! And another time she said that she was against stem cell research because they killed children! I said "What?!" and I think that she suddenly realized how ridiculous that sounded, but that's what she gets from O'Reilly et al...

Then there's my grandmother, my Dad's mother, who I was very close to. She was a lifelong Republican, probably because her father was, and she undoubtedly passed on her values to my Dad. She even voted against FDR, though she told me that my Irish grandfather, a Democrat, always voted for him, so they "canceled each other out." But he died young, so I never met him, when my Dad was just a kid.;(

But she moved to a retirement community which I realize now was populated by a whole lot of liberals, educated and intelligent people, many of whom I got to know. And after the 1992 election she called me to tell me that she voted for Bill Clinton. I was not that surprised, but very pleased that my Nana had finally seen the light in her 90s. I told her that I did, too, but there was no need to tell the others...:D

since his very real concern about climate change is about the only thing that we have in common with McCain. Apparently the trees don't agree...:D

although I kept thinking about the potential environmental damage that releasing balloons can be cause not to mention the litter of all those balloons in the tree branches (I seriously doubt they removed them from the tree).

17. Great point. I have little doubt that "Conservative Youth" aren't exactly environmentalists.
The ironic thing is that John McCain is, probably the only issue that he has in common with us, but I'd be willing to bet that these benighted folks aren't even aware of it...:dunce:

34. The story I read was that each balloon represented an orphan.
And that John McCain feels that these adoptable children should remain in institutions until a heterosexual couple was willing to adopt them. Pretty hypocritical, IMO, since one of his own children is adopted, the black child who became fodder for the "dirty tricks" campaign that Bush*-Rove used to defeat him in SC during the 2000 primary... :-(

I don't think he could have won no matter whom he chose as a running mate, but his choice of Sarah Palin really shot his campaign in the foot...

But I agree that the parallels are what made this so damn funny...

32. It's a University of WoE charity balloon launch....
I think the name's quite apt!

Stands for University of West of England (but they like to call themselves UWE)

I'm hoping the amount of money they raised didn't depend on how far the balloons went..

47. And why is that? Do Balloons NOT pop in the US?
Edited on Thu Nov-27-08 03:46 PM by demwing
Are there not trees, students, and birds in the US as well?

Is our sky a different color? Do our citizens not count down from ten?

Maybe there was a little hint, a bit of accent, barely noticeable, but does that make one a moron for not listening more thoroughly?

What's your "logic"???
