3. As a California who supports equal rights, i wonder...
should I support equal rights for those
who don't support equal rights for others.
It is a paradox. A conundrum.

Yet If we are, in any event, to call into question fundamental rights,
to bring some among us to the table as beggars pleading
for mere bread while others feast from the banquet of favorable laws
protecting and nurturing their hypocricy,

if that is so then let us adhere to equal rights by
reducing ALL to the status of beggars pleading for the bread of sustanance.

Let us strip away some of those priviliges afforded to religion.
Not the right to believe and practice, but all preferances and privilages the
law otherwise provides organized religion.

For example, why shouldn't a church pay commercial property taxes?
Will someone explain that?

4. The bullshit "70%" statistic, based on a flawed poll, is being pushed systematically
as a diversion from the real issues

Why we should be skeptical of the "70%" claim: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=221x88438

5. Frankly I think he was pathetic in that
As long as he has had to formulate all possible answers, I think he blew that one.

The result is not law until the Secretary of State certifies it. The suspension of issuance of Marriage licences is IMHO illegal until the results are certified. This "effective the next day" is just bs.

There are still some 2,000,000 votes to be counted and one of the No campaign tactics was to get people to fill out their absentee ballot with us on the phone. (Yeah, the person on the other end could have been lying, may not have mailed it, might not even have been filling it out - but how many dishonest people are there in this country, really?).

He "respects" people voting their faith???? WTF. Faith should have had NOTHING to do with it.

He said absolutely nothing about the interference in CA politics from people who are not subject to our constitution. The next amendment I want to see passed is that "NO-one who does not currently reside in the state long enough to pay it taxes as a resident can participate financially in an election".

6. But you know, LA County has already stopped issuing marriage licenses to gay couples
so not sure how much faith can be attributed to "it's not law until the Secretary of State certifies it". Further, you may be interested in knowing that Gavin Newsome has stated that the city of SF will continue to issue marriage licenses to gay couples until such time as he is stopped by Court Order. Personally I think that under the circumstances he did well in that interview, he showed real emotion and real commitment to fairness. I'm not so quick to throw him under the bus.

9. According to KCBS yesterday all CA counties had stopped
Which is precisely my point. They shouldn't have. There is no result until it the election returns are certified by the Secretary of State.

7. HE WAS AWESOME! this should be watched and sent to anyone who is anti-gay marriage you are friends
with. Because he was great, and made great points. When I saw it, I thought, I hope someone youtubes this because it's really really well done!

This is a travesty that has been done to American citizens. Something WILL be done eventually about it.

10. this whole damn thing makes me so sad...
I am starting to agree more and more with Bill Maher. I am a person of no faith. I keep my mouth shut mostly because religous people can be so obnoxious if you tell them you don't beleive, but its time we all started calling bullshit on these people who want to run our bedrooms from their pulpits.

11. his support was great
unfortunately, in his speech that was used in ads for Prop 8, he was seen as gloating and un-magnanimous in victory - which is a big part of why Prop 8 got support as well. When I saw the ads of his speech, I got mad too.

What kind of person thrusts something in someone else's face and says gleefully calls out '...like it or not' with that tone as he did? It was like the hare, who thought he had already won the race and sat down to gloat as the tortoise slowly passed by. He needs to learn how to win graciously and not obnoxiously, no matter how much effort he put into championing rights for others. No one likes a bad winner.
