1. While I'm loading that vid to watch...
A X-post from a thread in the Lounge:

The latest podcast of NOW features one of Vonnegut's last interviews:
Listen to one of Kurt Vonnegut's last interviews, from NOW's October 2005 broadcast. Host David Brancaccio sits down with the legendary author of CAT'S CRADLE and SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE to talk about his life and the state of American democracy. With his classic wit, Vonnegut delivers some choice words for our parties, our system, and our president.

3. Same here.
He was the first author who taught me that there's something beyond the words. That the story is not just what's contained in the pages but what they reference and draw upon in the world they inhabit.

Vonnegut's passing reminds me we are all not here for long, but we can create ripples that will live beyond our life spans.

4. I think he is my favorite author ever.
I can re-read his books over and over again. I saw him speak once at my college in the 80s and he talked about the structure of stories. It changed my view of literature forever.

8. He is everything I grew up with.
He is wonderfully validating. So much of me is Vonnegut. The common sense. His perception. I was surprised by his view on evolution, which he spoke of on the Daily Show. It's not a usual one. But I also share it. He was like visiting my old neighborhood, and reuniting with a best friend's father. Like old memories. It's a shame to have to end. That is if it really does end.
