He can't remember the five former secretaries of state who endorsed him -- although he does remember the Bush Crime Fammily consigliere Jim Baker.

28. It's more than "senior moments," I think. He is showing signs of ...
... Alzheimer's or some form of dementia, as has been pointed out by various doctors and therapists. (No link to anything at this particular senior moment of mine, but we all know it's been addressed.)

When I see McCain, I see my father, and his descent into Alzheimer's. The forgetfulness is of concern, and we all have our moments like that as we get older, but it's the overall picture of fumbling and not being on top of things, as well as the ill-concealed rage. McCain has a reputation for a bad temper even when he was young, but people with Alzheimer's often react with intense anger because of their frustration over not being able to perform normally.

It's sad to see anyone losing their basic intellectual faculties, but I tremble at the thought of McCain in the presidency. A vote for McCain is a vote for Sarah Palin, and maybe much sooner than we'd like to think.

The old guard needs to yield to a younger generation with, hopefully, a more global view of our participation in the world community. I speak in terms of the Brotherhood of Man, not so much economics, when I use the world "global."

4. Come on people..
Give me a break. He's human, and he ended up remembering it was George Schultz. It says nothing of his ability to be president.
You would not be criticizing Obama if he had that same brain fart moment. You would have probably said it made him more human.
So enough double standards. I know there is plenty of more substantive things to nail McCain and Palin on.
Let's not waste any energy on this.

9. So what you are saying is...
I lack the intelligence to make an argument on what's important and substantive to talk about in order to create a more meaningful, (and just maybe stronger) discussion on how McCain is not suited to president, just because I've been posting for a short time.

Dissenting opinions are important in forums like this I would think.

That said, I still think McCain is inept and crazy.
What I am saying is that this is a waste of time, this clip says nothing about his ability to be president.
There is a multitude of videos and articles out there that better illustrate his ineptitude.

18. I said nothing about your intelligence. And yes, dissenting views are important.
But dissenting views are better accepted when they are expressed in a manner that is not condescending.

So I am merely suggesting that before you tell people here how they should spend their time here, you ought to spend some time building up some credibility. And one way to do that is to express your views, dissenting or not, without the possibility of offending people.

26. Hmmm..
And you weren't jut a tad condescending in your response?

Its a pretty far stretch to say that I was intending to offend people.
It would seem that you are also insinuating what I was saying was an insult. Well I always thought that communication is a two-way street, and dialogue, especially in online forums can be easily misinterpreted by the reader if the reader is a little sensitive (am not insinuating anything by that by the way).

And as far as building credibility, I completely disagree. I don't think I should be restricting my views just because I've been posting for a short time. I don't believe in that kind of etiquette

And as far as seeming condescending, that I apologize for. That was not the intention. I shouldn't have said "Give me a break", although I see much worse sentiment on a regular basis here, usually by those who have 1000+ posts (again, not an insinuation). And having that badge does not give one the permission to speak that way.

But we are digressing from the original subject arent we? :) I still think this video says nothing about his inability.

12. No I am not saying give him a break....
(I actually said give ME a break)

What I am saying is quite the opposite.
There is a wide variety of ways to illustrate his incompetence, than a video that shows him having a momentary lapse in memory.
By the way, I'm sure Obama would admit he has those moments too. Remember that video from yesterday that showed him and Biden repeatedly screwing up their campaign ad because they couldn't remember their lines? It was pretty funny. It made them seem more human, but it did not illustrate in any way that they couldn't hold the offices of president and vice-president.

14. I agree
I don't think you can ignore those moments especially caught on tape. We can use anything he throws our way. And if his bummbling around trying to remember makes even one undecided voter jump into our camp then it's all good.

But to elevate this human slip-up to the other McCain/Palin premeditated ugly behaviors is counter-productive. It comes across as petty and mean. That's the Repukes MO, not ours.

33. Many Americans have serious questions about McCain's sanity...
and temperament. This is not the first time he has appeared forgetful and confused during an interview.

John McCain's reputation for mental lapses and reactive anger is America's business to mind while he in running for national office.

But it happens to THAT one a lot. Aren't we in the process of wrapping up eight years of that sort of "heh heh heh I fergit!" quackery from our "leader"?

13. Here's the thing
I'm 63 and these moments hit me more often. Would I hope folks would cut me some slack? Sure. But I'll bet Obama could recall those of that stature that endorse him. I'll bet he'd know what countries we're at odds with or not. I want THAT kind of mind in our Oval Office. Years of experience are great - if you can access what you learned during those years when you need to.

Funny video, yes, but Obama you might also notice sometimes needs a couple of seconds to collect his thoughts too. If we keep slamming McCain on stuff like this how does that make us any better than those who rally against Obama for the lapel pin thing. Come on guys we're better than this.

Let's be honest here, McCain isn't a springchicken and he has made a lot of mistakes like this. I'm not making fun of him, but I'm concerned that it may be the signs of something serious. The whole my "fellow prisoners" thing freaked me out. I can't think of one appropriate setting where that term would apply. Remember Palin is a heartbeat way.

10. why not..
I suppose this was in Waterloo. probably no mention of the printing crew that just got terminated (I'm one of them) at the waterloo cedar falls courier wcfcourier.com Which was because of the bad economy those jobs got sent to cedar rapids. Yeah... love the economy really love it. :P Dipshit.

In the age of technology it was bound to happen, but I don't think the Courier even knows whats going to happen. They just sped up their own demise. I should assume they'll tear that portion of the building down because the top floor isn't even... well one just simply does not walk on the top floor. Without saying a prayer they won't fall thru the floor.

But hey... I don't think The Courier will be around much longer anyway. There might be a few niche newspapers, but not big city papers.

Pretty much moved production of the newspaper to Des Moines. Now it's late quite often, and that's in good weather. I'm sure it has hurt them more than it helped. Stop by the Iowa forum if you get a chance. You'll like it there. :hi:

25. he wasn't going to leave it until he got the final one - just like

just like our grampa at the table when he is trying to remember an actress from his favorite old black and white movie and he gets annoyed and it won't leave his brain until he remembers it - and then he calls from his house after dinner an hour later and says ' I FINALLY remember it and her name was Patricia Neal' and we all look at each other and think 'he's getting older'. An unfocused grampa we do NOT need in the White House.

39. The unsettling part was watching him behave like a schoolchild learning multiplication tables
Eight years of this sort of thing is enough. I'm ready to *look up* to a president, for goodness sake. Maybe even stand in awe of an individual who could be President of the United States. Not go through more years of daily excuses as to what he meant, how he misspoke, or why he couldn't remember which way was up.

Every McCain appearance that's designed to increase confidence in him does exactly the opposite. (Not that I would EVER vote for him in a million years). And what's with this "f*ck it" shrug. Is that McCain's version of Shrub's smirk?
