11. That stupid Bachman twit just cost me another $50.00 that I can't afford to spend.
One more outrageous comment or action by brain-dead, deceitful, lying, trashy republicans and I'll be broke. Nothing causes me to send my hard-earned money to a candidate's opponent faster than such garbage as this Bachman creature is spewing. I've got to calm down; I'm too old to have my blood pressure elevated by such morons.

we joke around sometimes but i know people who contribute to charity and
politics more than they can afford. yet consider...

candidates must have cash, and small donations count, but they need votes even more.
volunteer. make a matching time swap with someone in Bachman's district.
better still, organize swaps here on DU.

all that fresh air and positive activity just might help the blood pressure.
not to mention the heart.

but first... deep breath...

I live in her district and in this neck of the woods (St. Cloud area) her base thinks she's just fantastic. They're loud and they're proud (if you can fathom the depths of ignorance it takes). If you were to read some of the posts on the local newspapers "story chat" and blogs you'd see that McCarthyism is alive and well around here. Someone once opined that when Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a Bible (or something to that effect). Welcome to the northwest corner of MN-6.

Go Tinklenberg!

(I think this should earn her a place in the Top 10 Conservative Idiots next week)

7. to call someone working in the political process anti-American IS anti-American.

I didn't realized I would be able to see the word 'smug' so eerily and perfectly realized in the form of Michele Bachmann. I highly doubt her views will be echoed by those around her - hopefully even those in her party will realize this idiot's tone is remarkably sophomoric and ignorant - such that she will no longer be brought into the political process by her peers or those across the aisle.

Her career is over.

Constituional principles. he will dial back the "unitary executive" powers grabbed by W.

But I hope he first uses them at elast a little bit to do a bit of de-Nazification of our government, especially the second and third levels of the civil service, which the "loyal Bushies" have pervasively infiltrated through illegal partisan hiring practces, especially at the DOJ.

28. I think this is about more than crippling the Obama administration. First Palin,
then McCain, now Bachman publicly saying that Obama is closely associated with a terrorist and is anti-American.

These people are ramping up (fomenting, as Katrina said) violent reactions within their extreme right-wing base. This is no accident and it's already beginning to be seen at their rallies where Obama supporters and journalists have recently been assaulted by Palindrones.

They can see that Obama is gaining voters every day. His numbers are going higher every day. More registrations every day. And there are more and more challenges by Democrats to the voter caging that is going on EVERY DAY. So what do the fascists do? They start scapegoating ACORN and Obama by saying they are destroying the very fabric of our democracy--in the words of John McCain.

So now the stage is being set. Obama is an anti-American terrorist. The election is being stolen by ultra liberal ACORN that is registering hundreds of thousands of illegal voters.

So, when Obama whips McCain's ass in a landslide of historic proportions and the fascists cannot steal it via voting machine manipulation they will light the fires of insurrection among their right-wing zealots. When the violence starts it will immediately be declared yet another CRISIS that our Beloved Leader must lead us through by declaring MARTIAL LAW.

Game. Set. Match. End of the republic.

By the way, Katrina is brilliant. We need her leadership badly.

16. The definition of "anti-Americanism" according to right-wing loons is as follows...
If you don't walk in lockstep with a Republican office-holder, if you don't agree with the reasons for going to war, if you believe taxes should go for things other than militarism, if you believe in a fair economy not a free economy...

then you are "anti-American"

Even though I live in California, I watched what she had to say. I emailed her through her official web site (you have to make up a zip from her district if you want to get to the email page) but used my real address to fill out my contact info.

Here it is:

Subject: You are a disgrace

I am a liberal and I love America. the kind of hysterical talk we heard from you on "Hardball" tonight smacks of fascism and is anti-American. If you think that just because someone is liberal means they hate America, I have news for you: liberals aren't afraid to point out what needs fixing in our country, unlike conservatives like you who think that any criticism of America is tantamount to hating America.

Apparently you have never heard of the concept of the loyal opposition.

Sincerely,

If you watch carefully you'll notice a pattern for the most virulent and loud mouthed of Obama haters... they tend to be from states where the 9/11 terrorists had set up camp, Florida, Arizona, Minnesota, or where elements of 9/11 were covered up Pennsylvania, Ohio. Also these areas tend to have a lot of militia types and neo-nazis. If you understand that the terrorists were Muslim Brotherhood and they have historical associations with Nazis back in Egypt after World War II then it all begins to make sense why these areas in particular are hot spots for 9/11, neo-Nazis, Saudi Muslim Brotherhood and the rightwing noise machine that wants to keep these connections concealed.

48. What do we know this woman for - Michelle Bachmann. She is married, but.
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 09:05 AM by higher class
makes a laughing spectacle of herself by kissing/clinging to George Bush (and hiding behind bushes?). She never really says anything brilliant, just delivers messages. Now, she has accepted an assignment to incite hate. She is a little puppet just like Norm. Besides wondering about the true history of how these puppets were selected and what they were promised, you have to wonder why the Republicans targeted Minnesota the way they have. Pawlenty for Vice President, Coleman for Senator, Bachmann for House. You have to wonder what Pawlenty would have done if selected and if they had won. Would he be in the straight clothes or the clown clothes? The point is - are they so green behind the ears that they can't see the way they are being used?

Minnesota gave us some pretty straight arrow politicians in the past. Even Jessie Ventura, the former entertainer, was more diplomatic and forward thinking in most ways than these two.

No one would have ever heard hate inceitment coming from Paul Wellstone.

Perhaps Bachmann should be pitied. While I believe it is shameful to be used the way they are using her, perhaps she will wake up to realize how the Rovians are working her to incite hate. Let's hope she does wake up and takes off her white clown cloak.

58. I don't believe it was the Democrats who were in government, when all
the warnings were ignored just before 9/ll;
I don't believe it was the Democrats who were in government, when the airforce was supposed to scramble to confront unauthorised incoming aircraft approaching, but behaved as if they had had a collective stroke;
I don't believe it was the Democrats who outed a clandestine network in a foreign country;
I don't believe it was the Democrats who started and continue to prosecute a war intiate on the basis of lies;
I don't believe it was the Democrats who de-regulated so many sectors of industry and commerce, leading to what may yet prove an economic apocalypse;

One of those outrages should suffice for the Democrats to set up an Anti-American Activities Commission, but our friend, Bachman seems unmistakably "several bricks short of a load", and inverted everything to condemn the Democrats.

53. What is American versus Anti-American?
I'll bet if you asked this woman that question she couldn't form a cogent answer.

In my view being anti-American is limited to doing things that directly threaten the existence, safety and integrity of the nation. This can be in the form of espionage, treasonous activities, etc.

Today we live in a nation that has historically embraced democratic capitalism as its political-economic framework. This framework operates against a Constitution that was brilliantly crafted, intentionally or unintentionally by the founding fathers with checks and balances throughout.

Even if someone were to suggest we abandon capitalism as we know it and adopt a modified form or capitalism as practiced in Europe where tax and social policies are more distributive and comprehensive, that isn't anti-American. It may be anti democratic capitalism as it is currently practiced but it is definitely not anti-american.

Dissent is not anti-american. Why would the founding fathers provide for the public to assemble peaceably and seek redress from their government? Why did Thomas Jefferson (I think) say that Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

Embracing a different policy perspective is not anti-american. Policies offered by one candidate or party may be perceived as being anti-the other party and what they stand for but they are not anti-American.

54. Good for Ms. Vanden Heuvel. It's time for the "liberal media elite" to tell it
like it is. It's time to push back hard against American neo-fascism!

55. Wow. Even UNCLE PAT has more sense than Bachmann.
I would say she gives Michelles a bad name, but that would be unfair to our future first lady.

56. This woman is bat-shit crazy
and the voters of her district should be ashamed of themselves to send her to Washington.
Oh, I signed the petition also.

What a lunatic, one that could get people hurt with her hate speech.

61. Would Michele Bachman think these positions to be un-American?
I am ashamed in America.
I am ashamed that we would elect a President who would ignore terrorist threats against America for nine months.

I am ashamed that the President would pre-emptively attack another country when no threat was imminent.

I am ashamed that the President would authorize torture.

I am ashamed that the President would treat detainees inhumanely.

I am ashamed that the President would wire tap Americans without a warrant for probable cause.

I am ashamed that the President taunts our enemies to ‘bring it on’.

I am ashamed that the President would kidnap people and send them to secret prisons.

I am ashamed that the President would ask Congress for torture legislation.

I am ashamed that the President would ask Congress to prevent the Federal Courts system from trying detainees.

I am ashamed that the President would ask Congress to spy upon Americans without a warrant.

I am ashamed that we are in a national debate about torture, spying, and discarding the rights of all people for a trial by a jury of their peers.

Soon I may be ashamed that Congress gives the President who did all these things listed above what he wants including the looting of $700bn of taxpayer funds to bailout speculators, gamblers and hedge fund frauds.

I am also ashamed that I have not spoken enough or done enough about all of this. The shame of the people, by the people, and for the people will not be easily removed.

So when I vote this year, I shall vote against every legislator who supported the shaming of America.

With George Clooney. It's a great historical movie about the McCarthy era.

66. Katrina and the Waves
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 03:24 PM by PolyD
It is so refreshing to have people on television to represent
my point-of-view... OUR point-of-view.

McCarthyism entered my mind, and I was glad to have Katrina
represent. She was just a tad too emotional which I am sure
that some Cretans are jumping all over, although the emotional
response was entirely understandable, when reflecting upon the
events that took place in what has come to be known as 'The
McCarthy Era'.

We don't want a repeat of that, and Bachman's words were
undeniably reminiscent of Joseph McCarthy.

It should also be noted that incumbent Michelle Bachman is in
a tightening race in MN. I'm assuming that Ms. Bachman used
her time on the 'big stage' with Chris Matthews to appeal to
her base, in the basest way she could. She got the attention
that's for sure.
