Chuck didn't say anything wrong in his report. There are many different things to consider before you toss a state to one candidate or another: likely voters, past election results, moving average of the trend.

9. I think I "get" Chuck Todd....

Playing with maps and poll data isn't fun if you are trying to figure out "How can Obama win?"

Because at this point, that's easy.

It's more interesting to take the map at, say, Real Clear Politics, which allows you to change the colors, and sit there and say, "Okay, I'm running the McCain campaign, how would I have to win this?"

It's a more interesting game, in some sense, from that side, because it is a much, much, much tougher problem. To try to figure out what McCain would have to win is a lot like being in the bunker at the end with Hitler moving imaginary divisions around on a map.

But if the "game" itself is your bag, it's more of a challenge to figure this election out from the other side.
