1. I think it may be too late. They have started the snowball rolling downhill

and it is on its way to becoming an avalanche..and they cannot...and perhaps would not, if they could...stop it.

5. Stopping it isn't hard
Let's face it, the people who are on the radical fringes, be they 'conservative' or 'liberal', stay on the fringe unless someone acts as their voice. McCain and Palin are inciting people, making them angry so they won't listen to the issues. They're no longer chanting 'McCain - McCain', they're denouncing Obama.

If McCain backs down from this kind of rhetoric, and if Palin stops inciting people at her rallys, they can calm the majority of people. The only ones left will be the really radical fringe elements, which will always be with us.

For the good of this country that McCain claims to love and to put first, he'd better wake up and realize that his campaign is threatening to ignite violence against America - by Americans. He's not a stupid man, I think he's just lost his way and has so much force behind him that he can't stop.

The best thing McCain can do for America now is to stop this hate mongering and go back to the issues. If he's this bad dealing with another American, what hope does America have if he becomes the one to engage in diplomacy with other nations?

2. McCain actions are putting Republicans in the position of having to
denounce his actions. McCain is fomenting division in this country. A candidate for President. It's sick and twisted. Republicans are going to have to speak out against this or been seen as having the same mindset.

If McCain keeps it up they need to call for his removal.

3. To be honest, Gergen did not say that, He may have meant that, but what he said was:
"I think it is really imperative that the candidates try and calm people down".

Wouldn't it have been better to simply go with what he said rather than editorialize?
