I think it is because he knows that in this historic election there are still very real historical biases that must be taken into consideration. I think that if a strong, brown man really took it to an elderly white man (or a white woman) --even in this day and age--there would be a backlash in this country. Sen. Obama knows this and, wisely, does not go very hard on the attack.
