1. How is this being run? A two-minute ad seems tough to pull off and expensive.
It is, however, very good.

3. I think that's the best part about it. He's sitting down with the American people.
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 08:06 AM by Brotherjohn
It's not "hit and run".

And he can afford it. McCain can't. This makes his campaign look that much smarter. I knew they were going to use all those donations for something valuable. This IS expensive, but it also will give them a great return on their (our) money. It's like having a favorable news story aired whenever they want.

9. Here`s some more info...

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is airing an unusual two-minute TV ad about the economy, calling for "shared responsibility" and "real regulation" to rein in an "anything-goes culture on Wall Street."

The ad is part of the campaign’s effort to respond confidently and convincingly to this weekend’s financial meltdown.

Two-minute ads are sometimes used in the opening or closing days of a campaign, but are rarely seen in the heat of the fall.

The ad begins running Wednesday on national cable stations, and will air in Florida and other battleground states – in some states, heavily.

2. I LOVE it! Speaking DIRECTLY to the American people, at length, on the ECONOMY.
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 08:07 AM by Brotherjohn
And acknowledging people's problems. Both of those are something McCain steadfastly refuses to do.

It makes the difference between the two blatantly obvious.

4. Thank you ... thank you ... thank you
Thank you DU for voting for this man !

As a Belgian (the country formerly known as that chocolate-producing-country) I hope many of your fellow Americans do the right thing. Not just for America (a country that is in dire need of change) but also for Europe. Much of the stuff that blows our way comes from the US. The good things like Gore and brainless action flicks :) but unfortunately also the bad things like gas prices and credit crisis's that cripple our economy.
Lately we have seen a lot of bad stuff coming from your administration toward ours. Your 'special rendition' planes fuel on our airports, your 'nucular' weapons are stationed on our soil.
You guys need this change so we can profit from it too.
Thank you for doing the right thing so our leaders might do the same

..from an across the ocean friend...

8. Welcome!!! I couldn't agree more!!!
I've traveled to many countries in Europe, including yours, having been to Brussels last year.

Europe is waiting with baited breath to see if the US citizens do the right thing for this country and for the world.

Rest assured that we Obama supporters are doing our part by working hard, pounding the pavement, making calls, donating, etc.. to get the job done!

Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 10:07 AM by gateley
for the citizens of the world -- like you.

I've been touched and humbled by all the support that has been given to Obama from across the globe. I'm so ashamed of my country as a result of the current administration, that I felt surely everyone would hate us. instead, you share our hope and our desire to make this a better world for all.

Thank you for being there. We'll do the very best we can to ensure a brighter future by electing Obama. :pals:
EDIT: How rude of me -- Welcome to DU! :hi:

7. I think this is great.
The other day, while watching his amazing speech in Golden, I found myself wishing that there was a way to get more people to see what he was saying, since we know the MSM wouldn't play more than a couple soundbites of it, and the average American wouldn't go out of their way to watch a campaign speech. This is a great way to do just that: get his message out to the low-information voters that we need to reach. It may be expensive but I think showing it a few times during high-rated shows/events will have a great impact.

It also makes me chuckle because McCain couldn't fill up two minutes with substance if he tried. And it shows, again, Obama on offense. The last few days have been excellent - keep it up, Team Obama!

11. This video is perfect
The man is eloquence and gravitas, substance and strength personified, with a touch of the "hope", which after all, is Mr. Obama's clarion call.

Seems like this thread is for some interested internationals to weigh in their opinion. I've been following the happenings of this election from down under. We've recently undergone a recent "regime change" ourselves, where Johnny Howard, a conservative (by Australian Standards) prime minister who was chummy with Bush was basically thrown out of office because the public was sick and tired of lies, unnecessary war mongering, and indecent and inhumane treatment of a number of members of society. The upshot of it was that he actually lost his seat in Parliament, which is unheard of for a sitting prime minister here.

Anyway, we've now got an intelligent (though at times wonkish prime minister) leading a centre left government, who's first act of parliament was to ratify the Kyoto protocol (as with Bush, JH was a VERY late convert to the global warming problem), and has promised to get our troops home from Iraq, and focus on the massive problems we still face in Afghanistan. So, while I don't have a direct say in your election, the outcome has a direct impact on what happens to our troops, so I care. (As an aside, Kevin Rudd (our new prime minister) also apologised to the native aboriginal peoples for years of colonial atrocities and allowed the nation to heal in that regard)

I've been convinced for some time obviously that the current administration has been terrible for the country (and the world), however had heard that McCain was a different kind of Republican. I'd also followed, with mild interest, the primary race between Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton. Since Mr Obama's speech at the DNC however, I've spent a large amount of time recently reading up on news and opinion on both sides of the spectrum of American politics. I must also admit, the Sarah Palin news was fascinating, it was like switching on a soapy TV series every day.

However, there have been a few things which have struck me about this election, and American politics in general:
1. McCain, and what his joke of a VP choice have nothing new to offer, and are actually just a perpetuation of the current pack of hyenas you guys have had to suffer for 8 years.
2. I haven't been 100% sold on Obama until recently, he needs to let his strength and steel show just a little bit more. However this video was perfectly made, and from the POV of someone who probably has as much knowledge as the average American, I feel it should get thru to people.
3. The vehemence that defines American politics is quite scary. I've read some these "right wing" blogs/news sites, and the disregard, and absolute contempt they have for pretty much anything they attach the "Liberal" tag to is shocking for someone used to our relatively mild and "centre left v centre right" politics. Some of the stuff coming out of the "left" is not much better, however I understand the absolute frustration that you guys must have gone through in the last 8 years.......so I'm much more forgiving in that regard.

4. I also find it amusing that our right leaning party here are actually called the Liberals (the left leaning (progressive?) party is called Labour)

Have been reading DU for some time now, and I think I might be a bit biased, but I quite enjoy the site, and encourage all of you to do what you can to make sure those scary, scary men (and now woman) are not back in power.

Cheers,

Funny to see how opinions from 2 completely different sides of the world resonate as it comes to these elections (and no doubt the previous ones too).

If I were a religious man I'd pray for this victory. But since I'm not I can do nothing else but hope common sense will prevail... and I'm scared sh*tless this is going to be 2004 all over again.

Why drive yourself crazy listening to idiots bash things they get paid to bash? Look, if I came up to you and said that I was going to ridicule all your ideas and someone was going to pay me to do it, would you really stand there and listen to me? Just saying.
