On the Campaign Trail with Obama in Raleigh, North Carolina. A homeless disabled veteran asked Obama a question about how George Bush has failed the veterans and how Obama intended to fix it.
Obama gave a 4 minute answer or more and I had to edit it down to a reasonable length.
I met this man afterwards and off-camera I expressed my appreciation, and my sympathy that a man who has served his country would be in such a condition. We have over 200,000 homeless veterans here in the United States - this is not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue - this is a moral issue that affects every last one of us as Americans.
One day earlier I had been at the VFY conference in Orlando where thousands of veterans from all over the country had gathered...they had discussions on the state of the VA system and how many of their fellow veterans had suffered from homelessness...Now - I met one face to face...and it only made me sick.
God bless this man and the other 200,000 like him, we need to come together and prevent this from ever happening again.
