2. Politics as usual

Two things come to mind when watching this clip. First, wouldn't it be nice if the democrats had such an eloquent, forceful and intelligent speaker these days? No one on either side of the isle speaks that well any more.

But my second thought was, political posturing is nothing new. How many people are aware that JFK and Nixon were friends? They were certainly much closer than JFK and LBJ, who never liked each other. How many people know that the Kennedy's were very close friends of Joe McCarthy? Joe Kennedy was more or less a political patron of McCarthy and Kennedy made sure that he wasn't on hand when congress voted to censure McCarthy.

So, my point is, avoid the rhetoric and look for truth. Our political structure is so convoluted and Byzantine that you can't simply go by nice sounding speeches. You have to know everything... their backgrounds, their voting histories, their financial backing, as well as what comes out of their mouths when their lips move.
