Clue: if you want to win over PA, or the Cheeseheads, don't pretend you were such a fan that you used the Steelers as fake names to your captives in Vietnam before they had ever even won a superbowl, ESPECIALLY when you already said it was the Green Bay Packers in your book. They may be sports fans but that does not mean they cannot read.

EDIT: Forgot to link in a dkos diary about this. As far as I know Hesiod is the first guy who actually figured this out and broke the story.

1. Oops! Here's a quote:
Beat senseless for days on end for refusing to divulge information or accept early release (which would have given the North Vietnamese a propaganda victory and violated the Navy’s honor code), he would reveal only the names of every player he could remember from the Green Bay Packers. “Resisting, being uncooperative and a general pain in the ass,” he wrote, “proved, as it had in the past, to be a morale booster for me.”

THAT's going to hurt, McMisremember. Your Alzheimer's is showing.

2. Yeah, but it IS PA, after all.
Which means I wouldn't expect them to get too worked up over it, since he's a repub. Now, if it had been Obama-well, then, how could he have?

Sorry, but I lived too close to PA for too many years not to know how too many in that state really are.

And talk about pandering and flip-flopping! Who's the king of that now, you hypocritical shameless a-hole McSame?

5. And since he was taken POW in 1967, that's the Steeler team he'd remember
Not too many of the "Steel Curtain" linemen on that squad.

6. This calls into question whether he recited ANY football team names
during his captivity. I mean, really--is there any proof beyond his word, or is it just so much sniper fire?

7. Or whether he has changed the team in interviews/speeches before...

...depending on who he was trying to pander to. I bet the Olbermann staff are digging through old newsreels as we speak.

names and it turned out they were names of players on a baseball or football team. Somebody famous.. maybe Deniro, Tom Cruise, somebody like that. Wish I could remember where I saw this. edit, maybe it wasn't somebody famous, my memory's wreaking havoc here.. but it was in a movie. That much I'm sure of. Though maybe it's a common practice, giving up names like that.)

10. I've often thought of becoming a golf club...
Bishop: I'll tell you, son. My main satisfaction is working with young people like yourself at our new Youtheran Center. Why don't you drop by some time?

Danny: I've often thought of entering the priesthood.

Bishop: Oh, are you, uh, Roman-Catholic?

Bishop: I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you can't come.

Lacey: Go for it.

Motormouth: You know, I've often thought about becoming a golf club.

12. Next he'll be going after the "youth vote" by claiming that he
used the names of the quidditch players from Harry Potter.
