via First Draft:

In September 2006, George Bush Sr attended the Ryder Cup held at the K Club in Ireland. He gave an interview to BBC Five Live Sport's John Inverdale at the K Club. There is a post on the interview at the BBC Ryder Cup blog as well as the link to audio of the interview. I transcripted the following from that interview which can be heard starting at the 1:05 mark:

BBC Five Live Sport's John Inverdale: Does your son play?

George Bush Sr: The President? He's about 15,16. But he doesn't get to play much. The press at home give him hell if he goes out and plays golf. He came to visit Barbara and me the other day up in Maine where we are and ah said you got to come up (uninteligible) and play. He said no the press would just you know here we are fighting, so it's just not, not good. He can ride bikes. He can't run anymore but he rides bikes.

It had nothing to do with any sort of self-imposed sense of decorum. The liar in chief was SHAMED out of it.

5. With the price of gas?
What did you expect? He is, after all, our conservation president and terribly worried about any impact on our environment.

18. You're right, alyce! Sounds like he just strapped the trainer wheels on it himself.
Bet Georgie has those wooden blocks on the pedals, too.
And the extra one, the one left over, they used for his head.

4. But everyone's self-imposed sense of decorum rises out of shame avoidance.
It's why I put on a brassiere in the morning. The only reason.

So can the President be a human being for just one day? I'm not defending what he said, I just think that the clip you presented supported what * said, and doesn't catch him in another lie.

You're at a point in *this* topic where further dissection actually hurts your case by making you look unreasonable.

Be glad * succumbs to SOME sort of pressure and call it a victory.

17. Be careful!
It's believed that binding the lymphatic system with things like bras (and other tight clothing) can lead to cancer.

6. Oh, that poor, spoiled brat of ours can't even play golf "while we are fighting".
He can't even run anymore. But he can ride bikes. "He's about 15, 16", alright -- in maturity.

Make no mistake: Poppy doesn't know any better than his spoiled brat. It's not because junior is torn up inside about the deaths caused by him; it's because the bad ol' press gives him grief about it. Image is all that matters.

11. Whether it is selvimposed or not..
.. I think the real problem in that story is the fact that one sport is being painted as being elitist, snobbish, don'tcareaboutourtroopish.

Attacking Bush on his choice in leisure time activity is part of what Obama rightly calls distractions.

Of course, when he then lies about it, that becomes a good story.
My point is just that most should agree that he should not have felt the need to explain it away. That is, if you really want this to change for the better.

12. It took Poopy to tell you what is an obvious PR ploy?
For at least a few days, many--but not enough, apparently--people have been saying that President Bunny Pants doesn't care what happens to anyone but himself and his closest friends (the rich). This is, most likely, not a decision that the Decider in Least made for himself; it was a decision made in committee by his baby-sitters. Critical thinking: I thought some people here were good at it.

15. "He can't run anymore but he rides bikes."
Maybe he only thinks he can't run anymore because somebody told him he can only be President for 2 terms.

16. Here's how it went down
We all know that Bush's presidency is the most PR managed of any in history.

After the watch-this-drive fiasco, the image people decided he needed to quit golf. They told him that. He complained and whined. Finally, one of the adults who manage his affairs told him, "George, I'm sorry, we can't afford bad PR like that. You're just going to have to make the sacrifice."

So, in his little nine-year-old brain, his giving up golf is a "sacrifice" that he thinks he is making for the troops. He doesn't realize it's just a sacrifice in the name of a PR gimmick.

When thinking about this guy, if you look at what he does and says from the perspective of an nine-year-old, everything starts to make sense.

20. Bush's bike riding mishap at Glen Eagles summit broke a policeman's leg
My Scottish friend's cousin was on security, and Bush rode right past him, waved, said Scotland was a wonderful country, hit a dip, lost control, and hit the Scottish policeman, breaking the policeman's leg.
