Corn based ethanol raises the cost of most food stuffs. High fructose corn syrup is used as sweeteners for so many foods is now becoming a second rate gasoline alternative. Add to this the fact that modern fertilizer is produced via petroleum distillates and you have disaster looming. Much of the world's food producing land has been put to use as urban dwelling. From 1930 to present, that figure approaches 50%. The world's population is about 7 billion and MAY top off at 9-10 billion at 2050. I'm glad I'm getting old, however, I have children and one grandchild (so far) and want a chance of existing in that world. However, I need to mention several more points to dampen their hopes; the world's oceans are fished out. A total collapse has been forcasted before 2020. The coming global weather change most people know as Global Warming will force out the wheat basket that currently grows in the US Midwest. Wheat does not like heat and the best climate for growing this crop will steadily move to the north into Canada. The problem with this scenario is that during the glacial periods, the glaciers scoured away all the topsoil, leaving mostly bare rock. Wheat, and most every plant on the planet, does not grow well on rock.
